This work attempts to evaluate a preceptor intervention on the development of critical thinking/clinical judgment from the new graduate’s point of view as well as from the preceptor’s point of view. The purpose of this research was to determine the perceived presence of workplace incivility among nursing faculty in associate, baccalaureate, and graduate nursing programs and whether there was a significant difference between workplace incivility behaviors, occurrence of incivility, extent of incivility, and engagement of incivility among the three groups. A convenience sample of faculty from nursing programs accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, and Tennessee completed the Incivility in Nursing Education-Revised (INE-R) survey. The final sample included 169 nursing faculty.

Obesity significantly contributes to human illness and to subsequent rising healthcare expenditures. Bariatric surgery has been identified as the only effective option to achieve the weight loss necessary for those who are morbidly obese. Previous research indicated that maintaining significant weight loss has been a problem for individuals who undergo bariatric surgery. The number of bariatric surgeries is increasing and factors that contribute to or interfere following bariatric-surgery weight-loss maintenance need to be determined. Evidence-informed education practices are critical in determining effective student preparatory learning resources for the NCLEX-RN examination. Standardized testing in nursing education programs has been demonstrated to increase students NCLEX-RN success. A widely researched assessment tool for predicting NCLEX-RN examination outcomes is the HESITM RN Exit Exams. The HESI Exit Exam (E2) was determined to be between 93.36% and 99.16% accurate in predicting NCLEX-RN success (N = 49,115) with samples derived from various nursing programs throughout the United States.

In recent years, there has been a shift in Canadian healthcare education. In some regions where access to healthcare education may be limited, post-secondary educational institutions have partnered with local Indigenous groups to provide community-based healthcare educational programs to attract and support Indigenous students. This article specifically reports findings from an interdisciplinary case study that explored classroom experiences of learning to write across one baccalaureate nursing degree program in Canada. A combination of rhetorical genre and situated learning theories and institutional ethnography methods were used to help document student and instructor experiences of learning to write two recurring writing assignments called the scholarly paper and journal of reflective practice, which students composed in each semester of their program. Data included 38 classroom/student observations, 22 assignment instruction documents, and 39 voluntary, semi-structured interviews with 34 students and 5 instructors from 4 courses. Woodsmoke pollution is an environmental justice issue for youth living in certain Pacific Northwest cities. Little is understood about how youth may be empowered to address woodsmoke issues in their communities. In this study, I examined youth empowerment in a citizen science study on woodsmoke, using Photovoice methodology. Ten diverse youth collected and analyzed indoor air samples and photos, then presented their findings to the community and policy makers. Entrance and exit surveys revealed an increased sense of empowerment to take action on woodsmoke pollution. Nursing programs are experiencing a decline in National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) pass rates among graduates. While researchers have attempted to identify predictors of performance on the NCLEX-RN, identification of predictors remains elusive. Although the literature is replete with studies exploring NCLEX-RN predictors, prediction under the new 2013 NCLEX test plan and passing standards is not well established. The purpose of this qualitative study is to examine the effectiveness of an anti-bullying intervention called Cognitive Rehearsal Training (CRT) using a workshop format to increase third year nursing students’ knowledge and confidence to address bullying behaviour. A lanyard card identifying ten common bullying behaviours and possible phrases to stand up to bullying was used as a tool to Stop! Reflect! and Respond! as a process to resolve conflict (Griffin, 2004; Griffin & Clark, 2014). The term conceptual understanding was analyzed to determine how educators can help students attain understanding in a concept based curriculum. The investigator sought to establish what salient dimensions and conditions supported conceptual understanding. A dimensional analysis of the term conceptual understanding was employed through a review of the literature in mathematics, science, psychology, and nursing education. The salient dimensions of conceptual understanding were identified as: factual and procedural knowledge, connections, transfer, and metacognition. Outside of using the ACT exam for admission into the University, a pre-admission exam for the School of Nursing has never been required until recently. A correlational study was completed to determine the relationship between the performance on the ACT and NLN-PAX pre-admission for the students entering the School of Nursing program in January 2015. Additional statistics were calculated comparing gender, ethnicity, and student status (transfer vs. non-transfer) to further validate the student’s performance on the ACT and NLN-PAX exams.
