Extended Range Of Motion Does Not Induce Greater Muscle Damage Than Conventional Range Of Motion In The Bench Press Exercise, Patryk Matykiewicz, Michał Krzysztofik, Adam Zając Nov 2023

Extended Range Of Motion Does Not Induce Greater Muscle Damage Than Conventional Range Of Motion In The Bench Press Exercise, Patryk Matykiewicz, Michał Krzysztofik, Adam Zając

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Introduction: Range of motion (ROM) of resistance exercise affects the muscle damage magnitude and the recovery-time course. Thus, the main aim of this study was to compare conventional and extended ROM in the bench press exercise on neuromuscular fatigue assessed by velocity changes during bench press throw, as well on the exercise-induced muscle damage evaluated by creatine kinase (CK) activity in the blood. Material and Methods: A total of fourteen healthy, well-trained males performed 5 sets of the bench press exercise at 70% of one repetition maximum with either standard (STD) and cambered (CMB) barbell until reaching volitional failure. CK …

Age-Related Differences Of Hamstring Flexibility In Male Soccer Players, Pantelis Theo Nikolaïdis Mar 2022

Age-Related Differences Of Hamstring Flexibility In Male Soccer Players, Pantelis Theo Nikolaïdis

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between age and hamstring flexibility of male soccer players and to provide reference data. Material/Methods: The study comprised 698 male subjects. The largest group consisted of male adolescents (n = 597; aged 10-22 years, yrs), further subdivided into six two-year age groups; the other two groups being children (n = 21, younger than 10 yrs) and adult players (n = 80; older than 22 yrs). All of those who participated in our study were members of competitive soccer clubs. They were examined for anthropometric characteristics, body composition, and performed …

Finger Range Of Motion And Joint Circumferences In Rock Climbers, Katarzyna Raczynska, Bartosz Trybulec, Kamila Boczon, Paweł Jagielski Mar 2022

Finger Range Of Motion And Joint Circumferences In Rock Climbers, Katarzyna Raczynska, Bartosz Trybulec, Kamila Boczon, Paweł Jagielski

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background. Fingers of climbers are an area where operating forces reach the highest values, thus they are susceptible for overloading. The aim of this study was to determine what kind of morphological changes climbing causes in the anatomical structures of climbers’ fingers and whether these changes affect their function. Materials and methods. The study group consisted of 27 climbers and 26 non-climbers as a control group. Research consisted of an original questionnaire and measurements of the range of motion and circumferences of finger joints. Results. Limited finger flexion in all distal interphalangeal (DIP) and proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints in the …

The Effectiveness Of Open Versus Closed Kinetic Chain Exercises On Pain, Function And Range Of Motion In Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis, Babatunde Olusola Adegoke, Arinola Olasumbo Sanya, Samuel Olusegun Ogunlade, Oladapo Michael Olagbegi Mar 2022

The Effectiveness Of Open Versus Closed Kinetic Chain Exercises On Pain, Function And Range Of Motion In Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis, Babatunde Olusola Adegoke, Arinola Olasumbo Sanya, Samuel Olusegun Ogunlade, Oladapo Michael Olagbegi

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The comparative efficacy of open and closed kinetic chain exercises (OKCE and CKCE) on the symptoms of osteoarthritis (OA) has not been exhaustively studied. To evaluate and compare the effectiveness of eight-week open OKCE and CKCE on pain, function and range of motion of patients with knee OA. Material and methods: ‪A quasi-experimental study involved twenty-nine consecutive patients with knee OA allocated to either OKCE or CKCE groups. Participants’ pain intensity (PI), functional score (FS), active range of motion AROM) and knee passive range of motion (PROM) were assessed using the visual analogue scale, the functional index questionnaire and …

Meta-Analyses Of The Effect Of Flossing On Ankle Range Of Motion And Power Jump Performance, Anna Pisz, Katerina Kralova, Dusan Blazek, Artur Golas, Petr Stastny Mar 2022

Meta-Analyses Of The Effect Of Flossing On Ankle Range Of Motion And Power Jump Performance, Anna Pisz, Katerina Kralova, Dusan Blazek, Artur Golas, Petr Stastny

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Decreased ankle range of motion (ROM) leads to many disorders, ranging in severity from gait abnormalities to knee and pelvis injuries. Therefore, maintaining full ankle ROM is very important, especially for athletes, for whom ankle ROM may affect their results during competitions. Medical flossing is a technique used by physiotherapists to improve ROM. The aim of this review was to investigate the effect of medical flossing on ankle ROM according to the results in previous studies. The search was conducted with the following key words individually and/or in combinations: range of motion, flossband, mobility bands, vascular occlusion, flossing bands, compression, …

Range Of Motion And Muscle Strength Deficits Of Patients With Total Hip Arthroplasty After Surgery, Aykut Özçadırcı, Ömür Çağlar, Gürsoy Coşkun Mar 2022

Range Of Motion And Muscle Strength Deficits Of Patients With Total Hip Arthroplasty After Surgery, Aykut Özçadırcı, Ömür Çağlar, Gürsoy Coşkun

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The aim of this study was to compare muscle strength and range of motion of the operated and unoperated side and to determine the relationship between the functional status and muscle strength and range of motion in patients with Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) 1–3 years after surgery. Material and methods: 5 0 patients with THA were assessed after surgery in this study. A universal goniometer was used to measure the range of motion (ROM). Muscle strength was measured by a hand-held dynamometer. The patients’ functional status was determined with the Oxford Hip Score. Results: The difference in hip abduction …
