Nick McGhie
This thesis is an exploration of student peer mentoring programs which are increasingly popular in Australian higher education. The thesis investigates the motivations behind student peer mentoring programs offering transition-in support for students. The thesis investigates whether programs are run to benefit the students or to serve the interests of the institution. Results indicated: that transition is more narrowly defined within alternative education programs; that key strengths of transition practice are present in nontraditional schools; and that the coordination barriers within this fluid interagency transition system are most apparent in students' frequent inter-setting transitions between nontraditional and home schools.

With the gradual disappearance of public space and of the welfare state, under the pressure and the auspices of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), education becomes one more space quickly geared up towards privatization, marketization of learning and educational goals while the character of free public education is radically redefined. This article addresses the changes in higher education legislation and policy in Greece and analyzes the discursive …
