The Use Of Microcomputer Programs To Improve The Reliability And Validity Of Content Analysis In Evaluation, Richard D. Frisbie

Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to advance the body of knowledge about how practicing evaluators can use microcomputer programs to obtain reliable and valid content analyses of responses to open-ended survey questions. This is important because practitioners often analyze such responses as part of larger evaluation efforts. To address this general problem, content analysis experts have developed methods of survey and discovery to help delineate new category systems and obtain codes for responses based on existing categories. Fortunately, some of the methods can be implemented with general purpose microcomputer programs. For example, key words out of context--word lists--can be …

Using A Computer With The Language Experience Approach, Carol Marie Jennings

MA TESOL Collection

This paper attempts to explore the use of a computer in language learning. It describes twenty lessons that were given to a non-native speaker using a computer with the Language Experience Approach. It includes three hypotheses that were formulated before the lessons began, the rationale of how the hypotheses were developed, a description of the lessons, and conclusions. The paper lists difficulties that were encountered in the lessons as well as factors that helped learning.

A Comparative Analysis Of The Value Of Intrinsic Motivation In Computer Software On The Math Achievement, Attitudes, Attendance, And Depth-Of-Involvement Of Underachieving Students, Patricia Ann Furey Meyer Jan 1986

A Comparative Analysis Of The Value Of Intrinsic Motivation In Computer Software On The Math Achievement, Attitudes, Attendance, And Depth-Of-Involvement Of Underachieving Students, Patricia Ann Furey Meyer

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

It was the purpose of this study to determine what effect intrinsic motivation in software programs using graphics and non-graphics has on the achievement, attitudes, attendance and depth-of-involvement of 65 underachieving students. The study was conducted in the natural school setting over the period of a semester. Data was collected on three groups, the control group (n = 33), the alternate treatment group in which students were exposed to CAI without the use of graphics as a part of the instruction, and the experimental group in which students were exposed to CAI with graphics for at least 20 minutes three …
