Institutions are supporting faculty in designing courses that meet QM standards by using course templates. Eastern Kentucky University and Cuyahoga Community College have created course templates that serve as guides to meet QM standards and permit academic freedom for course development. This presentation will share the navigation, placeholders and discuss applications. Audience will take visual tours of the templates and will come away with a free virtual Instructional Design Toolkit and gain access to view the EKU course template.

This paper summarises the work being conducted in an ongoing research agenda focused on exploring how the ‘learning design’ construct can be used to support university educators to create both pedagogically sound and interoperable e-learning experiences. The premise of this work is that a learning design can be used to support the pedagogical design process and the integration of international e-learning standards, such as learning object metadata and IMS-LD, enabling resources and tools to be technically interoperable across different standards-compliant systems. Technology integration in school curricula promotes student achievement, yet many teachers are not successfully integrating technology for learning. This phenomenological study explored the strategies of 10 elementary teachers in Georgia who overcame barriers to technology integration to successfully incorporate lessons within the public school curriculum. To understand the successes, we assessed strategies for overcoming barriers, intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, and professional development experiences. Rogers’s innovation-decision process provided the theoretical foundation and data sources consisted of an open-ended questionnaire and two in-depth, semistructured interviews. Self-Directed Learning In Problem-Based Learning: A Meta-Analysis, Heather Leary, Andrew Walker, Brett E. Shelton

This paper presents a meta-analysis focused on self-directed learning in problem-based learning when compared with a traditional learning approach. A total of 75 outcomes from 38 studies were used in the analysis which resulted in a statistically significant overall medium effect size of g = 0.45, favoring problem-based learning. Subgroup analyses conducted focused on four aspects of self-directed learning. Both personal autonomy (g = 0.51, z(47) = 6.4, p = 0.01) and independent pursuit of learning (g = 0.66, z(2) = 3.49, p = 0.01) report statistically significant positive effect sizes. This article describes two consecutive enactments of technology-oriented teacher professional development designs, aimed at helping teachers find high-quality online learning resources and use them in designing effective problem-based learning (PBL) activities for their students. To align with current professional development prescriptions, in the first enactment, teachers learned PBL design skills concurrently with technology skills. Following aspects of design-based research, the professional development theory, participant feedback, and results from the first enactment informed the design of the second. During Fall semester of 2007, a semester-long, quasi-experimental study was conducted at Boise State University to investigate the effectiveness of a systematically sequenced and managed, self-paced e-learning activity on improving students’ academic performance and motivation. A total of 125 students enrolled in 3 different sections of a Precalculus class participated in the study. The e-learning activity was implemented in 2 of the 3 sections as a required homework assignment. Students enrolled in one of the 2 selected sections were all engineering majors. This paper is a summary of research and experiences using Web conferencing tools to support students in under graduate and graduate programs in learning through web-based courses. The presenters will share best practices associated with teaching while using web conferencing software. The more popular Web Conferencing software will be compared. Two examples of how faculty members use programs such as WebEX (a paid service) and Any Meeting (an open resource) will be demonstrated. Additional free or open source web conferencing systems will be shared within this session.
