College choice is a critical decision facing many high school students. Although some research has examined where students go for help in making college choices, few studies have examined how race or gender differences of the students or differences in their standardized test scores affect their information sources. Entering college freshmen (N=3,708) indicated which ~f nine information sources (college students, friends, high school counselor, college publication, family, alumni, high school teacher, newspaper, tel~vision) they used in selecting a college.

Responses were analyzed separately for females and males, blacks and whites, in each of four American College Testing (ACT) score categories. …

The Odyssey Of Depo-Provera: Contraceptives, Carcinogenic Drugs, And Risk Management Analyses, William Green

Depo-Provera has been a scientific and political battleground for over twenty years. At stake have been the reproductive health of women, the marketing of a long-acting contraceptive by a multinational corporation, and international family planning and population control. Seventy nations have approved its use as a female contraceptive, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not, because the drug is a suspected carcinogen. FDA's decision means marketing of Depo-Provera as a contraceptive is forbidden in the United States and in U.S. foreign aid programs. Changing demographics and economic factors are focusing national attention on adult learning as a major resource for solving many of the nation 's social and economic dilemmas. However, adult learners, the poor especially, face obstacles to educational advancement even where tuition is waived or incentive grants are given. Despite the considerable recent growth of adult education, the vast number of those who need it the most are not as yet participating.
