This research examined the professional development mentoring experiences of African American doctoral recipients who participated in the Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) Doctoral Scholars Program or the McKnight Doctoral Fellows (MDF) Program, and are currently employed as faculty at an American college or university. The purpose of this research was to identify the types of professional development mentoring opportunities that assisted SREB and MDF program graduates in their transition into the professoriate, and to determine if race or gender of the faculty mentor played a significant role in their preparedness for the teaching, research, and service tasks required of faculty. …

The Introduction to Equine Assisted Family Therapy course offered at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) provides Master’s and Doctoral level student therapists the opportunity to learn how to conduct an equine session and how to utilize horses as part of the therapeutic process. Students learn about the underlying theories and framework behind the equine activities and methodology, as well as participate in the equine activities themselves. For the purpose of this study, classroom discussions centered around processing the students’ experiences and were further enriched by viewing photographs and videos that had been taken of the students conducting the equine activities. Innovative School-University Partnerships: Co-Teaching In Secondary Settings, Brenda Morton, Ginny Birky

A unique co-teaching partnership with professional development was created with two local high schools and a university teacher education program. The model was implemented to strengthen teacher candidate practicum experience and inservice teacher development. Three themes emerged from the design-based research: classroom climate, lesson planning/implementation/assessment, and differentiation. As a result of the co-teaching model with professional development, teacher candidates perceived increased support and guidance on all aspects of classroom practice. Cooperating teachers deepened their own understanding of teaching and learning in the classroom. High school students in co-taught classrooms reported positive classroom climate, increased engagement, individualized instruction, and feedback. Overall, …
