This case study describes how two librarians transformed an international information literacy course by creating a scaffolded open pedagogy experience for students to build transferable skills while exploring how information is produced, disseminated, and interpreted across the world. The authors discuss how we collaborated on the project to incorporate open pedagogy, tools, and strategies to enhance learning. The result was a scaffolded course using open pedagogy to help students engage with global information issues. Using Pressbooks, students published multimedia content exploring topics including global news media, censorship, misinformation, and digital divides. This research investigated how to use curriculum mapping as a curriculum-integration tool to identify the components of information literacy (IL) and evidence-based practice (EBP) in the nursing curriculum for the future systematic incorporation of information literacy components in teaching EBP. The primary objective is to strengthen information literacy and evidence-based research competency. The ACRL information literacy framework in Higher Education, Information Literacy Competency Standards for Nursing, EBP Competencies, and the EBP research model were used to provide structure to create a map and crosswalk of information literacy and EBP student learning outcomes. This presentation describes the process used to develop and implement an information literacy curriculum for graduate programs at Emory & Henry College. When the library director was hired, she noted that students were graduating without having contact with the library and without building necessary information literacy skills. She began searching the literature for solutions and approaches. She synthesized the literature and, after identifying barriers, created a plan. The following case study adapted a library instruction course to support students’ ability to construct a thesis statement. Given at an urban junior college, the goal of the credit-bearing course is for students to acquire effective research strategies for finding reliable information and to develop information literacy skills. For this study, pedagogy divided thesis writing development over the course of several weeks in which students reviewed sample theses and the work of their peers, providing feedback to fellow students and revising their own work based on feedback from both students and instructors. The purpose of this study was to implement information literacy (IL) into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) writing courses at an urban community college, investigate if students’ information literacy (IL) skills were improved through library one-shot instruction, and determine if there was an association between IL skills and students’ writing performance. This article reviews scholarship of incorporating institutional objectives in academic courses and proposes a method to embed mission-critical competencies in a library instruction course. Few academic institutions focus their mission or core competencies on digital communication. LaGuardia Community College delineates three competencies in its mission: inquiry and problem solving, global learning, and integrative learning. Students exhibit command of these competencies in written, oral, or digital communication. This article investigates ways in which student voice informed design research into information literacy instruction in a year-long graduate science education ePortfolio culminating project. We test whether and how well the presence of an embedded librarian improves the quality of student research. Students in introductory-level courses tend to have very low levels of research skills and experience. Though faculty are frustrated by this lack of skills, both students and faculty tend to have only a peripheral knowledge of the role librarians can play in helping develop their research skills. When an education professor and a reference librarian sought to improve the quality of undergraduate student research, their partnership led to a new focus on assessing the research process in addition to the product. In this study, we reflect on our collaborative experience introducing information literacy as the foundation for undergraduate teacher education research. We examine the outcomes of this collaboration, focusing on the assessment of the process. Using a mixed methods approach, we found that direct instruction supporting effective research strategies positively impacted student projects. Why should Seminary students “go to the library”? Because of the ubiquity of online resources, it is increasingly possible to complete the degrees without setting foot in the building that is full of books. This is so even though many classes require readings or research papers that anticipate the use of the library. Surprisingly, some assessment feedback from students suggests that this mode of independent text based activity is not necessarily appreciated as time well spent.
