The Revival Of The Folk Dance As Social Recreation In Northern California, Grace Tener Frye Jan 1947

The Revival Of The Folk Dance As Social Recreation In Northern California, Grace Tener Frye

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This paper is limited to a few brief but important statements on the early development of the folk dance. As for its origins, it is quite obscure. From the studies of its beginnings, it can be freely said that it began with primitive man who used his body to express his feelings. Ruth Radir writes; "Man, we believe, has always danced. The beginnings of the dance, like the beginnings of all man's expressive life, are shrouded in a speculative past."1
