One apparent trend impacting spectator sports is the shift in sport fans’ consumption opportunities, having now gained many alternative formats to access sporting events. Sport fans are allowed intentionally and constantly to move from platform to platform and access content on demand. These substitute platforms, including home television, online streaming, social networking, sports bars, and movie cinema, are considered mediated sports consumption, alternative outlets to actual physical attendance of sporting events. This study examined the extent to which (a) healthy weight and overweight/obese high school students differ in Progressive Aerobic Cardiorespiratory Endurance Run (PACER) and push-up test performances, (b) attributions for PACER and push-up test outcomes differ based on weight status and performance (in the healthy fitness zone [HFZ] vs not in HFZ), (c) attribution dimension scores differ based on student weight status and performance, and (d) content-specific motivation constructs including personal interest, self-efficacy and attribution dimensions predict PACER and push-up test performances. Investigating student emotions has gained attention in motivational literature because they represent mechanisms for interpreting experiences and behaviors. Physical education (PE) is critical to promoting skills and positive experiences that lead to an active and healthy lifestyle. Yet, in PE there is a dearth of information and theoretical evaluation of student emotions. To address this gap, this dissertation uses the control value theory of achievement emotions (CVTAE) as a lens to investigate student emotions, antecedents, and outcomes in PE-related settings.
