The Next Generation Science Standards call for science learning be composed of scientific practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas, i.e. “three-dimensional." The class SCED 201 at Western uses the Next Generation Physical Science and Everyday Thinking curriculum, whose publishers claim it to be three-dimensional. A revised version of the Three-Dimensional Learning Assessment Protocol (3DLAP), was used to analyze one unit of the curriculum. Knowing how to revise learning opportunities to engage with each of the three dimensions, will help provide students with learning in line with the NGSS. Last semester I had the opportunity to work closely with Jen Alexander, a school counselor at Hansen Elementary School. As a school counselor, Jen helps kids develop social skills, improve their learning, understand their emotions, and much more in order to help them thrive while they are in school. My poster discusses all the things I learned from interning at Hansen. It also goes into detail about what school counselors do, the best parts about being there, and research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how they can affect kids.

Story Squad: Connecting Books, Standards, And Literature Circles, Leslie Cowell

Story Squad was developed after experiencing the use of Literature Circles in a fourth grade classroom. Students enjoyed the idea, but the jobs themselves and process were not engaging. Story Squad presents roles for connecting to literature after giving students “a mission” to solve. Roles expand past the traditional Literature Circle roles and directly connect to state standards. Can be used and adapted for 3-8^th grade.

The 2018 Boeing Pilot and Technician Outlook report forecasted that the aviation industry needs 790,000 new civil aviation pilots worldwide over the next 20 years. Some airlines have answered the call by creating ab initio (entry-level) programs to recruit, train, and hire their own pilots. However, the 2018 Outlook report also forecasted that the aviation industry needs 754,000 maintenance technicians over the next 20 years. Recently, there has been more attention paid to potential shortages in other aviation careers such as aircraft maintenance technicians but the primary focus is still remains on the pilot population.
