An Elementary Physical Education Curriculum For Jones-Jaggers Laboratory School, Joanne Powell

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This project proposes the utilization of a movement education approach in a physical education curriculum for elementary school grades one through six. It is intended to assist elementary physical education teachers in establishing and maintaining a program based on current research and literature in the field.

The movement education philosophy differs from the traditional physical education approach in the following ways:

  1. The program is child-centered rather than subject-centered with successful experiences for each child of prime importance.

  2. Consideration of the affective domain is as necessary to the program as the psychomotor.

  3. Creativity is encouraged in that the teacher seeks new …

Tutorial Reading Programs In The Elementary School: A Survey, Judith P. Mitchell

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

In this complex and often confusing country, reading is viewed by many people as the most important skill a child can acquire during his school years. Success in school, of both children and teachers, particularly in the elementary grades, is often measured by children's success in learning how to read. Reading is the tool that unlocks most knowledge for children and adults alike. As a person seeks employment the inability to read or the inability to read with facility greatly limits the opportunities.

Puppetry For School Children, Gennie Eldridge Jan 1975

Puppetry For School Children, Gennie Eldridge

Honors Theses

All puppetry is a form of play. More than most forms, quick methods seldom have utilitarian ends as far as the performer is aware. If the puppets develop from the available materials, then its practical use will quickly lead from aimless play to a more formal form. It is at this stage that dangers lurk for the beginner. It is the liberating possibilities of this medium that are so very important and not the development of a set pattern for repeated performances.

This study was concerned with finding out what perceptions K-6 classroom teachers would express about K-6 articulation within their districts. The study was also concerned with finding out what difference, if any, existed between the perceptions of teachers from districts with fulltime K-6 curriculum directors and the perceptions of teachers in districts with full-time K-12 curriculum directors.

It was expected that teachers in both groups of school districts would express the need for more K-6 articulation awareness and activities within their districts, but that teachers in districts employing a K-6 curriculum director would indicate that their districts were doing more …
