The purpose of this non-experimental study was to determine if parental involvement levels have an effect on the gifted and talented (GT) status of fourth grade students. An additional purpose of the study was to determine if there was a difference between the academic performance of GT and non-GT students. The participants were a convenience sample of 50 parents or guardians of fourth grade students at a public middle school in the southeastern United States. Abstract
The purpose of this non-experimental study was to determine if the students’ reading abilities affect the students’ attitudes toward reading. The effect of gender on reading attitudes was also determined. Participants were a convenience sample of 91 second-grade students from an elementary school in Arkansas. The participants completed the Elementary Reading Attitude Survey as well as questions about demographic information. Classroom teachers participated by completing two questions that pertained to ethnicity and reading ability. An analysis of the results revealed that the students’ reading abilities impacted their attitudes toward reading. The results also revealed that girls had a more …

Abstract
The purpose of this quantitative study was to discover if an association exists between grade-level and the type of avenues through which parents wish to receive information from their child’s school. Participants were a sample of one hundred and fifty parents of seventh and eighth grade students at an urban public junior high school in Northwest Arkansas. The purpose of this dissertation was to find effective phonological instruction for improving reading comprehension and oral language proficiency of ELLs. In addition, this study was conducted to inform school administrators without ESL certification about best practices in ELL education so they could make informed, school-wide decisions for better serving ELLs before entry into secondary schools.
The sample included first and second-grade students identified as ELLs in two Northwest Arkansas elementary schools. For the last 15 years, federal legislation has required that public schools involve parents in their child‘s education. Yet, there has been no solid definition for parent involvement (also known as family literacy) and limited research on family literacy. This mixed study examined the influence of Toyota Family Literacy, which focuses on Hispanic immigrant families, on the literacy achievement of students in kindergarten through third grade, as well as parental efficacy in helping their child succeed in school, in three Northwest Arkansas Schools.
