Which Muslim-American women made an impact on the world? How can educators integrate inspiring Muslim-American women into an elementary social studies curriculum, centered around Anglo-Saxon culture, experiences, and history? The purpose of this presentation is to provide “mirrors and windows” to brilliant women, that have been traditionally marginalized throughout American history (Bishop, 1990). Schools are doing an injustice to their students by excluding content about Muslim-Americans in the mainstream curriculum. Our research will bring attention to unsung Muslim-American women, who are often unknown to students and teachers. We will highlight the women’s achievements, courageousness, and perseverance to bring about change, …
