The Effects Of Covid-19 School Disruptions On Social, Emotional, And Behavioral Skills, Reggie N. Rios

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

School disruptions, closure of school buildings and online learning, in response to the coronavirus disease in 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic impacted students in unique ways (Azmat & Ahmad, 2022; Hosszu et al., 2022; Hussong et al., 2021; Patrick et al., 2020; Spitzer, 2020) and possibly had long-term effects on the social, emotional, and behavioral skills students normally establish and practice within the school setting (Steedly et al., 2008; Taylor & Larson, 1999; Zins et al., 2007). The lack of research related to the effects of school closures during the Covid-19 pandemic on social, emotional, and behavioral skills was addressed in this …

An Examination Of Irish Post-Primary Educators’ Attitudes Regarding The Promotion Of Student’S Social And Emotional Wellbeing, David Byrne

Other Resources

Background: In the Republic of Ireland, ‘wellbeing’ was first recognised in 2015 as a formal area of learning for all Junior Cycle students and this led, in turn, to the consolidation of the wellbeing curriculum and the introduction in 2017 of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) wellbeing guidelines. While much research now demonstrates how social and emotional learning and health and wellbeing initiatives and interventions can benefit students, relatively little is known in terms of the attitudes and opinions of Irish post-primary educators in this regard. Objective: The overarching objective of this study was to contribute to …

We’Ve Come A Long Way (Baby)! Or Have We? Evolving Intellectual Freedom Issues In The Us And Florida, L. Bryan Cooper, A.D. Beman-Cavallaro

Works of the FIU Libraries

This paper analyzes a shifting landscape of intellectual freedom (IF) in and outside Florida for children, adolescents, teens and adults. National ideals stand in tension with local and state developments, as new threats are visible in historical, legal, and technological context. Examples include doctrinal shifts, legislative bills, electronic surveillance and recent attempts to censor books, classroom texts, and reading lists.

Privacy rights for minors in Florida are increasingly unstable. New assertions of parental rights are part of a larger conservative animus. Proponents of IF can identify a lessening of ideals and standards that began after doctrinal fruition in the 1960s …

Impact Of Universal Social-Emotional And Behavioral Screening Among Middle School Students: A Multistage Approach To Identification, Kristen M. Ballinger

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Mental health problems often have an onset during the school age years and significantly impact the development, academic achievement, and future success of children and adolescents (Kessler et al., 2005). Less than half of the 10% to 20% of youth believed to be emotionally and behaviorally at-risk receive the mental health services they need (Bradshaw et al., 2008; Gresham, 2007). As a result, universal screening for mental health risk has been recommended as the best initial step to identifying and intervening with at-risk students. Numerous screeners and methods of implementation exist, but a widely accepted and utilized process has failed …

The Influence Of Gender, Empathy, Group Norms, And Prosocial Affiliations On Bullying Roles, Danielle M. Taylor Jan 2012

The Influence Of Gender, Empathy, Group Norms, And Prosocial Affiliations On Bullying Roles, Danielle M. Taylor

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

School bullying is a common social phenomenon associated with a number of deleterious short and long term effects (Andreou, 2000; Brown & Taylor, 2008; Olweus, 1993). Despite awareness that bullying is deeply rooted in the social context in which it occurs, little is known about how social norms and friendships influence bullying behavior (Espelage & Swearer, 2003; Salmivalli & Voeten, 2004). This study examined the relationships among gender, empathy, perceived group norms, prosocial affiliations, and bullying behaviors. Two hundred and sixty-two students from six different schools along the east coast participated in this study.
