The focus of my capstone project is on providing mental health resources for migrant workers and their families. Language barriers and cultural differences are a big obstacle for these parents. Because of this, it is hard for parents to seek help. Language barriers can make communicating one’s struggles with healthcare providers difficult. This capstone project focuses on adolescents’ mental health and well-being. Before the age of twenty-five 70% of mental health disorders start to develop which is why it’s important to teach adolescents ways to improve their mental well-being along with the signs of mental disorders (Kutcher et al., 2008). According to the World Health Organization, many of those adolescents' mental health conditions go unrecognized or untreated. At-risk youth lack healthy coping skills needed to manage stress. This lack of skills leaves adolescents vulnerable to more risky behaviors such as substance use. Therefore, I created a two-day lesson on healthy coping skills for adolescents at Mount Toro High School in Salinas, California.
