Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a significant health issue, as it requires patients to perform daily self-management activities. One in every three Americans with Type 2 diabetes has limited or low health literacy skills. Limited or low health literacy skills can impact a patient’s overall health outcome; therefore, a critical element for disease management and patient adherence is health literacy.
