A Survey Of Student Interest In Construction Management Students’ Involvement In Design Village Competition, Candace Nicole Stephens

Included in this paper are the results of two surveys that were designed to assess student interest in Construction Management students’ participation in the annual Design Village Competition hosted by Cal Poly every spring. Sixty-five Architecture and Architectural Engineering, and thirty Construction Management undergraduate students completed these surveys at the College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED), Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The overall student interest level in both groups was majority positive. This project attempts to outline my experience teaching English in the San Luis Obispo County Jail as part of a seven-week internship. It will outline various teaching methods that I found useful in one-on-one settings. I will discuss the flexibility required to work within the limitations imposed by the jail, as well as linguistic and cultural obstacles associated with teaching a native Spanish speaker. Lastly, I intend to advocate for the implementation of more jail programs that can be accessed by non-native English speakers.

Agricultural Education: Graduate Internship Reports

The internship included the acquisition of a variety of validation documents, plus the development of a school and community garden. The garden provides for hands-on student learning. Students involved in the project harvest the fresh produce and distribute it to families of students who do not have access to fresh produce. Some produce from the school garden was donated to the local food bank in the area. Teaching sustainable practices is essential to this educational program for students in the middle school.

This internship and project report includes validation documents required in meeting the quality criteria for secondary-level programs of instruction in agriculture. The documents are concurrently used for the Agriculture Incentive Grant review process at Highland High School conducted by representatives of the California Department of Education. The supporting material includes information to receive state and local funding, outline the goals and objectives of the program, along with an overview of Highland High School, the agriculture program and the community.
