The Fear Of Reptiles And How To Change It, Maxwell Lyman

Reptile fear is prominent across many cultures. Anti-reptilian attitudes can lead to anti-conservation attitudes towards reptiles. Person-animal interaction has been shown to decrease fear desensitization and increase positive attitudes towards "unpopular" animals. My project demonstrates the effectiveness of live animal presentation in dispelling negative attitudes of reptiles. However, due to the sample size of the project, further research is highly suggested.

My purpose for this portfolio is for each reader to look at teaching in a new and innovative way that will guide students and educators. I have resources in each project that will push ideas for new projects or encourage readers to try a new writing mode or novel that they have never tried before. I hope my students are engaged in my variety of lessons and research and feel challenged to push themselves in their own research and writing. I encourage the reader to use the following projects to create a positive writing and reading environment in the classroom.

A series of reading guides for Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, and Frankenstein, that utilize interactive technologies to facilitate student engagement with and discussion of the texts. Each reading guide consists of an overview of the text, relevant historical context, and reading and discussion questions for students to answer. Some reading guides also have corresponding answer guides that provides sample answers as well as hints and tips for answering the questions.

The main purpose of this research is to see what effects problem-based learning has on student engagement cognitively, behaviorally, and emotionally. Some research has found that problem-based learning increases students' cognitive engagement in the classroom. This research will be conducted over a three week period and analyze student engagement during a traditional unit and a problem-based learning unit.

Motivation is a universal internal force that propels people to complete tasks. Without motivation, an individual will not complete a task despite any external reward (Ngyuen, 2008). People contain both extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation. The purpose of this action research study was to observe the effects of vocabulary learning tools and reflective journaling on student confidence. Participants were from three classes of 15-20 students who attend math class for 45-90 minutes each weekday in a suburban high school setting. They were assigned Frayer Model vocabulary learning tables, as well as three journal prompts a week regarding either mathematics content or personal thoughts on classroom activities.
