Yureka Education Center (YEC) is one of the institutions which has developed an online-based English proficiency test. The test is called the English Proficiency Online Test (EPOT) which follows the TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program) framework. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the characteristics of EPOT instruments consisting of Listening, Structure, and Reading subtests, which later the quality of each EPOT test item is identified. The ICILS assessment was developed over a 20-month period from April 2010 to December 2012. Most of this work was conducted by the international study center (ISC) at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) in collaboration with national research coordinators (NRCs) and the project advisory committee (PAC). SoNET Systems conducted the software development for the test modules. This chapter provides a detailed description of the test development process and review procedures as well as the test design implemented for the ICILS field trial and main survey.

Although emerging consensus exists that practice-based approaches to teacher preparation assist in closing the distance between university coursework and fieldwork experiences and in assuring that future teachers learn to implement innovative research-based instructional strategies, little empirical research has investigated teacher learning from this approach. This study examines the impact of a video- and practice-based course on prospective teachers’ mathematics classroom practices and analysis of their own teaching. Two groups of elementary prospective teachers participated in the study—one attended the course and one did not. This paper reports the theoretical conceptualisation, statistical development, and application of an Implementation Index to evaluate the quality of implementation of the KidsMatter Primary school mental health initiative in Australia. Questionnaires were received from the parents and teachers of almost 5000 students, and also from KidsMatter project officers. A conceptual framework of fidelity, dosage, and delivery guided the selection of questionnaire items to create the Implementation Index, which was refined using latent class analysis. Schools' scores on the Index were classified into high, average, and low implementation categories. Profiles of high- and low-implementing schools provided insights into the characteristics of …

Student wellbeing is of central concern for parents/caregivers and teachers and for state and national governments. In Australia in recent times several major initiatives have been undertaken to address the area of student mental health, including the KidsMatter Initiative. Across 2007-8 a trial of KidsMatter was carried out in 101 schools across Australia. Part of the roll-out of KidsMatter was a detailed evaluation of its implementation. Thus, in this paper we report on findings associated with the implementation of the KidsMatter Initiative. The Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 1999 Video Study examined eighth-grade mathematics teaching in the United States and six higher-achieving countries. A range of teaching systems were found across higher-achieving countries that balanced attention to challenging content, procedural skill, and conceptual understanding in different ways. The United States displayed a unique system of teaching, not because of any particular feature but because of a constellation of features that reinforced attention to lower-level mathematics skills. Using those records, we can generate estimates of the demand for each course at Western. This report presents findings for fall quarter, 2001. We plan parallel reports for winter and spring quarters-hopefully early enough to be used by departments considering course offerings for 2002-2003. Executive Summary: This study was undertaken to establish a technique for quantifying nontraditional assessment outcomes data, to ascertain the effectiveness of the Fairhaven methodology of education, and to provide feedback about that methodology to Fairhaven instructors and administrators. Two assessment tools were utilized: the Perry scheme and the Measure of Intellectual Development (MID). The Perry scheme is a stratified model of cognitive development; the MID is a rating system that allows researchers to assign scores to Perry scheme positions. Executive Summary: This study utilized the records of two samples of wwu upper¬ division students (those with 90 credits and above) to evaluate the relationships of academic performance to students' admission status (either native or transfer) and other selected student characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, and age. The first sample measured academic performance in terms of cumulative WWU GPA. The second sample looked at grades earned in 300 and 400 level courses only (upper-division GPA).
