Profiles Of Learning: The Basic Skills Testing Program In New South Wales: 1989, Geoff Masters, Jan Lokan, Brian Doig, Siek Khoo, John Lindsey, Lynette Robinson, Susan Zammit
Prof Geoff Masters AO
The 1989 Basic Skills Testing Program in New South Wales provides the most comprehensive picture yet compiled of literacy and numeracy learning in Australian primary schools. In 1989, some 53,800 Year 6 students in NSW government schools were tested in five aspects of literacy and numeracy. Another 2,300 Year 3 students took part in a pilot study. This book discusses the writing of the tests, the analysis of results, and the reporting of results to parents, teachers and schools. The aim of the basic skills tests is to describe, in positive terms, the skills that students have mastered, to identify …

This study was intended to help answer the questions: How is secondary schooling viewed by the increasing numbers of young people who complete Year 12 but who do not enter higher education? and, Is senior secondary schooling relevant to those who move straight from Year 12 to employment, or to study in TAFE colleges? The study documents the post-school experiences of recent Year 12 school leavers who have not enrolled in higher education, and analyses their views on the labour market relevance of secondary schooling. These experiences and views are discussed in the context of linkages between education and the …

This study compares local prevalance rates of college male sexual aggression with those established nationally, and explores variables that may contribute to the development of sexually aggressive college men. A survey of 1682 (M = 619, W = 983) undergraduate students from a mid-sized university revealed rates similar to those found by a national study. Results of discriminant analysis indicated that sexually aggressive men were likely to have more sexual partners, to have been victims of childhood sexual and / or physical abuse, to have had their first sexual intercourse at an earlier age, and to have engaged in higher …

Analise Quantitativa Do Currículo Escolar [Quantitative Analysis Of The School Curriculum], Karl M. Lorenz

Favourable Attitudes Towards School And Students' Perceptions Of Curriculum Choice, M Sheret, L Fink, John Ainley
Dr John Ainley
The paper examines Year 11 students' attitudes to their school experience, and how these attitudes are influenced by the background characteristics of the students and by the students' own perceptions of the degree of curriculum choice within the school. The paper then looks at some school and student characteristics to see if these can explain why some students are more satisfied than others with the subjects available for their curriculum choice.

Regional Differences In Connexin32 And Connexin43 Messenger Rnas In Rat Brain, C. Naus, Daniel Belliveau, J. Bechberger
Daniel J. Belliveau
The regional distribution of gap junction mRNAs was examined in the adult rat brain. The level of connexin43 mRNA is more abundant than connexin32, being homogeneously distributed throughout different regions of brain. In contrast, there is dramatic heterogeneity in the level of connexin32 mRNA, with the highest level in the hindbrain. These results suggest that the gap junction genes are differentially expressed in regions of the adult rat brain.
