This Technical Report and User Guide is the culmination of an evaluation investigating the effectiveness of KidsMatter Primary, involving over 5000 participants in 100 Australian primary schools over a two year period. The use of information and communication technology (ICT) in schools is now an intrinsic part of students' learning, both inside and outside the classroom. The call for quality research into the effectiveness of learning technologies is a common feature in much of the related literature and the broad question of how schools use technology to transform and improve the quality of student learning is one main area of concern. Projects like DECStech have flagged the need for research into student learning outcomes and the changes 'attributable to the use of learning technologies across the full spectrum of learning areas'. The DECStech 2001 Learning Technologies Project was developed with the major aim of maximising the uptake of purposeful use of technologies to improve student learning outcomes through using a network of nine Discovery and Global Discovery schools. This report examines early school leaving in Australia. It focuses on students who leave school before the beginning of year 11 using a national representative longitudinal survey of Australian youth who were in Year 9 in 1995. The report examines the social and demographic characteristics of early school leavers and their reasons for early school leaving. It also models leaving school with social background, demographic, school and attitudinal factors. This report examines hourly earnings among Australian youth. The influences on hourly earnings were analysed in three sections. The first presents the correlation between earnings and social background, school factors, qualifications and labour market history. The second part models earnings using a four step procedure adding, sequentially, social and demographic background factors. school factors, qualifications and Year 12 completion, and employment history. The final section focuses on aging and cohort effects by examining the inmpact on hourly earnings of gender, schooling, qualifications and work experiences at particular ages.
