Executive Summary: This report provides summaries, in the form of text, tables, and graphs, of student responses to the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Student Information Survey for Western Washington University's 1994 in-coming frosh class. The CIRP has been used since 1966 to gather nationwide normative data on the characteristics, attitudes, values, educational achievements, and future goals of in-coming frosh, and has been used at Western since 1971. The two main sections of the report are as follows: 1) general trends, with national findings compared to those at Western; 2) an in-depth study of issues related to college financing. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Between Summer, 1992 and Spring, 1993, 403 Masters degrees were awarded at Western. The first survey of Masters recipients by the Office of Institutional Assessment and Testing, conducted in Spring, 1994, contacted 290 (72.9%) of them. The majority of Western's Masters recipients (58.6%) are women. One in six (18.1%) are not U.S. citizens; fewer (5.8%) are U.S. minority group members. Ages are diverse. The oldest was 63 at graduation; the youngest, 23. One-fourth (28.9%) were over 40. Over half (57.1%) received their undergraduate training in Washington, 28.9% at Western. Executive Summary: Information for this report was obtained from the Student Tracking System. The report presents findings intended to provide insight into various characteristics of the 2198 graduates who matriculated during the 1992-93 academic year (Fall 1992 through Summer 1993), 58.7% of whom were females and 41.3% males. Natives (students who began their education at Western as first-time frosh) made up 44.2% of the 1993 graduates, and transfers 54.3%. Most graduates were between the ages of twenty-one to twenty-four years old (63.0%). No graduate was younger than twenty-one years old; the oldest graduate was seventy-three.
