The Intersection Of Influential Reading With Writing In Multimodal Contexts, Grace Rusk Kerr
The Intersection Of Influential Reading With Writing In Multimodal Contexts, Grace Rusk Kerr
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Numerous studies have touted the importance of teacher self-efficacy on the motivation and achievement of their students (Ashton & Webb, 1986; Bandura, 1994 & 2002; Mojavezi & Tamiz, 2012). When teachers have high levels of self-efficacy (the level at which teachers believe they can affect student outcomes), their students achieve at higher levels and develop increased levels of motivation. By extension, we posit that if teachers have increased self-efficacy regarding their own writing abilities, it will translate into increased motivation and achievement levels for their students in the area of writing. The purpose of this three-article dissertation is to support …

Testing Measurement Invariance In Multilevel Data With Unequal Cross-Level Factor Structures, Lihua Yang
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The test of measurement invariance (MI) investigates whether observed items measure a construct in the same way across different groups or over times. Examining MI is a prerequisite for multiple group comparisons in psychological tests (Schmitt & Kuljanin, 2008). With the prevalence of multilevel data in educational research (e.g., students nested within schools), establishing MI across multiple groups or waves of nested data has brought increasing attention. Two popular techniques for the test of multilevel MI include the multiple-group multilevel confirmatory factor analysis (MMCFA) and the design-based approaches. The MMCFA approach estimates sample covariance matrices at different levels separately. The …

Arts Smarts Or Random Visits: Arts Field Trips In The American Education Policy Context, Angela R. Watson
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The school field trip is as much a part of the American educational experience as letter grades and recess. However, in response to a variety of pressures such as accountability, safety, and funding, the school field trip is reported to be in decline. Traditional field trip destinations, like museums and zoos, claim that attendance has declined. Further, these institutions feel pressure to connect field trips directly to state educational standards, or even design field trips to meet state standards that may be outside their areas of expertise, in order to justify a field. In this collection of three studies, I …
