Asociado a las recientes transformaciones de la educación superior Mexicana ha emergido un nuevo "académico" al que, a pesar de los esfuerzos realizados a la fecha, todavía no conocemos satisfactoriamente. Tomando en cuenta dichas transformaciones, la investigación realizada en el país, la tradición Estadounidense respectiva y una visión sustentada en el hecho de trabajar como académico en una institución publica estatal, este trabajo identifica, respecto del académico, algunas áreas que demandan una mayor atención. This report completes the pilot study conducted by the Columbus Public Schools’ (CPS) Urban Systemic Initiative (USI)1 and the Center for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching in Mathematics Science and Technology (The Center@IMSA) of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA). This initial pilot study was designed to test the Elementary Teacher Survey prepared by the USI Teacher Support Teams. A validation study, to follow in the spring, will seek evidence of program impact on teaching practices in science and mathematics classrooms. This paper presented lessons I learned from a study of fraternity advising. It summarized the major themes I found in a qualitative study of seven successful fraternity advisors who worked with seven successful fraternity chapters on seven difference campuses. The work was focused on finding a model of excellence with which to generate guidelines for advising college fraternities at the chaper level.

La identificación, reclutamiento y fomento al desarrollo de futuros académicos es de vital importancia para la renovación de la profesión académica. Este trabajo discute la influencia de la experiencia universitaria en la decisión de los estudiantes de perseguir una carrera académica. Considerando la naturaleza del trabajo académico, se describen algunas de las características personales más apropiadas para dicho trabajo; así como la manera en como la experiencia universitaria tiene un impacto sobre ellas. Despite the popularity of promotionally-oriented Web sites within journalism/ mass communication programs in higher education, there has been little examination of sites and their contents. Almost no research has focused on visual, informational, and operational enhancements, or how Web sites of different higher education programs in the discipline differ from each other. This research addresses some of the unanswered questions about how journalism/ mass communication Web sites use enhancements to communicate with online users.
