A Phenomenological Study Of The Educational Experiences Of Black Women: Learning As You Go, Eva Young, Mary Ziegler, Kathy Greenberg

This research study provided a descriptive picture of educational experiences of three sets of Black sisters who grew up in the inner-city. A qualitative existential-phenomenological research study design was used to derive common themes that represented the universal essence of the participants’ experiences. This study illuminated the formal and informal learning experiences of Black women and the profound role cultural experiences of family and community play in shaping their learning experiences through adulthood. Findings suggest that the educational experiences of Black women influenced their development, voice, self-esteem, and self-defined achievement and success. This paper represents a literature review on the topic of organizational change. It argues that how we label a specific type of organizational change has an impact on how we both view the change and the potential outcome. The focus here is on transformational change—a change that occurs at the center core of the organization and results in substantial change to the center core of the organization, impacting the currently held beliefs and assumptions.

Data collected through interviews with individuals who recently experienced a Participation Training Institute reveals the nature of the phenomenon as reflective practice, as improvisational theater, and as eductive process. Comparative case studies might reveal productive similarities and differences between Participation Training and other forms of group learning.

In this paper I report the findings of a study of primary care physicians’ experiences as they enter the medical profession after residency training. Using narrative inquiry to learn about the participants’ experiences, this study found that despite strong professional socialization during training, the participants constructed their medical practices to meet both their professional and personal aspirations while conforming to organizational expectations.
