The Impact Of Repeated Reading Intervention On Oral Reading Fluency For Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder (Asd) In Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al Naji Aug 2023

The Impact Of Repeated Reading Intervention On Oral Reading Fluency For Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder (Asd) In Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al Naji

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The prevalence rate of learners with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has risen concurrently with their inclusion into public schools in Saudi Arabia. Being in schools, they face academic challenges, particularly in reading. This increased rate evokes the importance of implementing valuable strategies to keep up the academic skills of those students. These students require Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs), which have been demonstrated crucial for their reading development. Nevertheless, limited research has been done on examining the efficacy of EBPs used to enhance the reading skills of learners with ASD, especially their Oral Reading Fluency (ORF). This study used an effective approach …

Insights And Strategies To Support Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder In Post-Secondary Contexts: A Canadian Perspective, Janice M. Fennell, Phd, Suzyo Sc Bavi, Janice M. Galloway

Strategies to Support Students with Autism

The number of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) entering post-secondary institutions is increasing, but students with ASD are struggling more than their typically developing peers, with high rates of mental health challenges and a lower graduation rate. This study’s purpose is to understand the learning needs/experiences of students who identify as being an individual with, or having a formal diagnosis of ASD, while highlighting perspectives of f aculty members and students from Sheridan College. Our research finds that the learning experiences of students with ASD at Sheridan are impacted by: (a) Environmental stressors, (b) Gaps in transitioning from high …

Sustainability And Maturation Of School Turnaround: A Multiyear Evaluation Of Tennessee’S Achievement School District And Local Innovation Zones, Lam D. Pham, Gary T. Henry, Adam Kho, Ron Zimmer Apr 2020

Sustainability And Maturation Of School Turnaround: A Multiyear Evaluation Of Tennessee’S Achievement School District And Local Innovation Zones, Lam D. Pham, Gary T. Henry, Adam Kho, Ron Zimmer

Public Policy and Administration Faculty Publications

Recent evaluations of reforms to improve low-performing schools have almost exclusively focused on shorter term effects. In this study, we extend the literature by examining the sustainability and maturation of two turnaround models in Tennessee: the state-led Achievement School District (ASD) and district-led local Innovation Zones (iZones). Using difference-in-differences models, we find overall positive effects on student achievement in iZone schools and null effects in ASD schools. Additional findings suggest a linkage between staff turnover and the effectiveness of reforms. ASD schools experienced high staff turnover in every cohort, and iZone schools faced high turnover in its latest cohort, the …

What Makes That Autistic Student Tick? Strategies For Classroom Behaviors, Amanda Puleo Dec 2017

What Makes That Autistic Student Tick? Strategies For Classroom Behaviors, Amanda Puleo

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Inclusion of autistic students in mainstream classrooms may make it difficult for teachers to identify and proactively address disruptive behaviors. That is, mainstream teachers may not know how to respond to these specific behaviors and their standard classroom management techniques may not work with autistic students. It will take commitment and hard work to identify strategies to regulate the disruptive behaviors of students with autism. To address this issue, the perspectives of directors and teachers who specialize in autism, as well as mainstream public or private school teachers were obtained through interviews. Three options for action emerged from an analysis …

Transitioning Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder From School To Society, Charla Brenta Spurlin Deleo Jan 2017

Transitioning Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder From School To Society, Charla Brenta Spurlin Deleo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

High school administrators in a rural school district were providing transition planning to students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in order to meet postschool transition goals. Despite these efforts, few students with ASD were employed or enrolled in postsecondary training, and parents reported that they were dissatisfied with the postschool transition process. The purpose of this collective case study was to explore parental and staff perceptions of the postschool transition processes of students with ASD to increase the understanding of the practice related to postschool transitions. Guided by Tinto and Pusser's institutional framework, research questions were focused on the experiences …

Brown, K. (2017). Accommodations and support services for students with autism spectrum disorder: A national survey of disability resource providers. Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability, 30(2), 141-156.

Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are participating in postsecondary education at an increasing rate.  Yet, we know little about what types of accommodations or services disability resource providers employ to support students with ASD.  The purpose of this study was to examine how postsecondary institutions are fostering the academic success of students with ASD.  Using a randomly selected, nationally representative sample of postsecondary institutions (n =1,245 response …

A Spectrum Of Support: Current And Best Practices For Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder (Asd) At Community Colleges, Kirsten R. Brown, Michael D. Coomes

Kirsten R. Brown, Ph.D.

More than 50% of all college students with a disability enroll in public 2-year institutions. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a type of disability that affects a growing number of students in postsecondary education. Currently, over 70% of 2-year public institutions enroll students with ASD. In spite of increased awareness, the vast majority of existing ASD research focused on primary and secondary education. Research on practices that support students with disabilities in the community college environment is imperative for promoting student success. The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to explore current and best practices that support students with ASD …
