One of the largest challenges facing community colleges in the new millennium is identifying leaders who possess the necessary skills and competencies to successfully navigate the modern presidency. Facing a dynamic shift in the fiscal landscape, community college presidents are tasked with filling the gap between institutional needs and existing forms of financial support. This research deals with factors that explain fundraising success and what types of institutional arrangements or practices exist at four year US public universities which make them successful or unsuccessful. Investment in higher education from state government continues to decline; alumni giving participation rates are falling, and many endowments continue to lag from the Great Recession. Nowhere has this been felt more than at many U.S. public universities who consistently watch their percentage of state aid dwindle.

Exploration Of The Balanced Scorecard As A Tool For Performance Measurement And Strategic Planning In Higher Education Development, Clifton Perry Moulds

This study sought to uncover information about the types of measurement and strategic planning models being used in higher education development, determine what measures are most important and effective for successful development practices, and explore the potential application of the Balanced Scorecard to higher education development operations. Survey data indicated a wide range of quantifiable metrics currently in use and opinions about measurements such as face-to-face visits, delivery of solicitations, and dollars raised. Personal interactions were considered the most important form of measurement, with financial outcomes falling closely behind.
