Modern feminist discourse has struggled with a certain dilemma: the paradoxes of makeup and fashion. These two topics pose questions from both viewpoints. One may ask: are we meant to support makeup as an industry and hobby, to take pride in our skillfully groomed brows and pretty dresses that make us feel more beautiful? Or are our cultural notions of beauty something to fight against--another means of control, forcing us to force more on appearances than we should?

The University of Maine is required to make all of its programs accessible, except where doing so would result in either a fundamental alteration of the nature of the program, or undue financial and administrative burdens. Program access requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act do not require the University to make each existing facility immediately accessible. However, if structural changes in existing facilities are necessary in order to make the programs or services accessible, each changes must be made no later than Jan. 26, 1995.

At first the woman appeared shy and hesitant. Dressed in a long calico gown and bonnett, she told the students she was there to "acquaint" them with the ways of family life as she knew them - back in the 1700s.
