The American public school classroom has begun moving from the traditional furniture of education (hard plastic chairs attached to desks) to flexible mobile furniture as part of a holistic approach to creating a learning environment that enhances learning for its students. This project describes the process derived in the development and delivery of an asynchronous professional learning session aimed at helping teachers acclimate and engage new or adapted physical and psychological attributes to the learning environments in their care. Gameful Design In The Development Of Asynchronous Online Discussion Activities: A Case Study, William Michael Trest

This study investigates Gameful Design as a method to improve the development and implementation of Asynchronous Online Discussions in online learning environments. A qualitative methodology, an instrumental case study design, was used to examine the effectiveness of this design method by exploring the experiences of the participants and the meaning they gave to those experiences. Data was collected through observation, discussion transcript analysis, and pre/post-course interviews. Validity was strengthened by triangulation of these sources.

This session presents the diverse aspects in a community-based learning and consultation model for online and blended course design. Collaboratively, a panel of instructional designers and librarians have provided consultations in a multi-phase faculty development program. The customized approach to instructional design, integration of information literacy, and fair use in online teaching and learning will be presented. The audience will take away the setups of the program, and will interactively share insights.

Presenters will explore the role of technical services in library instruction, specifically as this relates to the ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. This framework places emphasis on research as a highly contextual activity, where researcher practices and dispositions are linked to the communities of practice in which they occur. By extension, such communities exist and evolve semi-independently of any particular manifestation of library resources or services, meaning that libraries must be as prepared to accommodate autonomous practices and dispositions as they are to participate in shaping them. The HTC received a grant to create the training programs and began working with the Urban Harbors Institute (UHI) to coordinate the project. Given that students who are deaf face learning challenges as a result of delays in language acquisition and reading comprehension skills, educators presume that the use of multimedia will aid in comprehension of novel information as it does with hearing students. This study examined the impact of multimedia on comprehension and cognitive load for students who are deaf. A Debriefing Technique In High-Fidelity Patient Simulation And Competent Decision-Making Abilities Among Nursing Students, Trena Seago

Nursing faculty are utilizing high-fidelity patient simulation (HPS) with debriefing to help engage nursing students in making competent clinical decisions. This quasi-experimental study examined the use of HPS with debriefing and students’ ability to make nursing care decisions using standardized exams. The experimental group received debriefing after HPS and the control group did not receive debriefing after HPS. The pre- and post-test assessed participants’ ability to make clinical care decisions. The analysis of the pre-test and post-test HESI scores showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups.
