Although peer student support services are offered at college and universities across the country, there is little discussion regarding how students are trained to work in these positions. While the benefits of student support services are generally agreed upon, these services can only be effective if student employees feel adequately prepared for their roles. This study aims to determine best practices to design training curriculum for students employed as writing center consultants, content tutors, and peer mentors in a university setting. Within a unit dedicated to reading, writing, and analyzing short stories, the lesson explores the key elements in composing engaging work. Students are given a multiplicity of activities to explore and determine what makes the short story, "Lost in the Woods" a thrilling tale. The activities serve to enhance their knowledge of the methods and techniques behind good short story writing.

The major goal of this course is to familiarize students with current video production techniques and equipment. By using a hands-on and laboratory/ lecture approach, we will be able to produce a wide variety of projects using both studio and field procedures. Some of the areas we will cover include: treatment/scripting, pre-production, directing, lighting, audio, continuity, camera operations and post production.
Students will also apply current media streaming techniques to video and upload final projects to YouTube and Google Video.
