Research outputs 2014 to 2021
This project trialled an innovative, scalable model of work-integrated learning (WIL) in micro-businesses in a coworking space. WIL embeds industry and/or community engagement into the curriculum through authentic learning and assessment activities. This project focused on workplace-based WIL, specifically, business students undertaking internships in a cluster of coworking spaces—under the umbrella of ‘Spacecubed’—in Perth CBD, Australia.
The project aims were broadly 1) to trial and evaluate ways to enhance enterprise capabilities among business students through WIL and 2) to introduce a model of WIL that overcomes some of the barriers that have previously prevented smaller organisations from participating in WIL. …

The overarching aim of this twelve-month project, funded by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was to develop industry understanding of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and assess the support needed by employers to better engage in WIL. Data gathered in a survey of Western Australian employers and industry focus groups prompted the establishment of a WIL Advisory Service (WAS). In this study, student and employer users of WAS were asked to …

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
"While a 1973 English major tends bar in a local nightspot, a social work graduate labors in a steel mill. A math major washes dishes in Florida, an education graduate works as a bank teller and a psychology major serves cocktails in Maine." (Jolly & Pierce, 1976, p . 2) . As these examples point out, there is a great need for our institutions of higher learning to be more responsive to the needs of the job market today.
For the past several years, colleges and universities have been criticized on the basis that they do not prepare young people …

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Those persons involved with the curriculum in the Business Education Department at Utah State University need to be kept informed of the current location and employment status of graduates from the distributive education program at that institution. This will enable them to keep abreast of the needs of the program for training teacher-coordinators and others to be employed in the field of distribution. If the graduates are employed in distributive education positions, a knowledge of their attitudes toward the curriculum they followed at the university will help in evaluating and upgrading to meet the needs of a changing world. The junior, community, or vocational-technical college is evolving into one of the most important educational institutions in the United States. The Carnegie Commission said, "Occupational programs should be given the fullest support and status within community colleges. These programs need to be flexibly geared to the changing requirements of society." Today's business society is constantly changing and this change necessitates constant analysis, evaluation, and revision of educational training programs. According to Goddard:
The development and improvement of junior college business curricula should be based on careful evaluation of present curricular offerings in business and extensive research into the nature of …

LaSalle found that while automation is increasing at an even accelerating pace, little emphasis is apparent in high school curriculums on the significance of automated processes for prospective office workers. He further stated that business education departments should study local situations and prepare students to qualify for available data processing employment.
The need for data processing training in the Ogden area is evident in the frequent requests by local employers for people trained in data processing.
