Understanding what a dual immersion program is and knowing the different models within the program allow parents to select which program is best suited for their students. This law, which cut all state funding for bilingual programs, prompted significant changes in language education policies. The research draws on the experiences of teachers in Monterey County, who provide personal input and teaching philosophies on this topic. Given this, one-on-one support for them is crucial for their academic success. The focus of this Capstone Project is on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the Latinx community, with an emphasis on parent education to spread awareness. This is an important issue for Latinx parents because proper identification and treatment of ADHD are essential for student academic success. The project explores three recommendations from Guadalupe Valdes' book, Learning and Not Learning English. The three are age-appropriate academic content, revolving door policies involving classification/ reclassification, and the importance of teacher preparation. The discussion covers how the three impact English learners' attrition rate, causing negative self-efficacy, lack of college preparedness, and employment opportunities. This capstone project concentrated on the professionals working with children as part of SKC’s Early Start Intervention Program. The project’s objective was to discover local agencies' professional development training needs that serve Latinx families with disabled children between 2 to 8 years.
