Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Dr. Yoosun Kang in a piano concert on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. This concert is free and open to the public.
Dr. Kang, a native of South Korea, currently serves as a professor of music at Chung-Ang University in South Korea and teaches applied piano and piano literature. Dr. Kang earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Yonsei University in Seoul, Soth Korea; a Master of Music degree from Indiana University; and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Musi.Dr. Kang …

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host the New York Classical Players (NYCP) on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. as part of its first-ever Arkansas tour. Ouachita Baptist University’s Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert on Tuesday, March 7. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center on the Ouachita campus. It is free and open to the public.
“The Wind Ensemble is the premier instrumental ensemble at OBU and the concert will feature outstanding wind and percussion music,” said Dr. Craig Hamilton, Ouachita’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host pianist Dr. Cole Burger in concert on Thursday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center. The recital, which is part of Ouachita’s Guest Artist Series, is free and open to the public.
Burger is an instructor in the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University, where he teaches and coordinates class piano and piano pedagogy. He holds degrees in piano performance and economics from Northwestern University and the University of Texas.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Concert Choir will perform Mark Hayes’ Requiem and Te Deum on Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at www.obu.edu/boxoffice.
The performance will be “an uplifting, exhilarating and worshipful musical experience,” said Dr. Jon Secrest, chair of Ouachita’s Department of Applied Music and director of the choir. “The music of Mark Hayes has immediate appeal for the tastes of our student musicians and audience members alike.”

The University of Maine Symphonic Band has invited Dr. Nicholas Williams to be a guest conductor and clinician for the University of Maine Symphonic Band and our guest band from Hampden Academy; both bands will perform on the December 8th concert at the CCA. Our guest conductor will also give a performance clinic for the Old Town High School Band while in our region.

Each year the University of Maine School of Performing Arts presents a completely student-organized fundraiser pops concert in the Collins Center for the Arts. The project serves three purposes - to raise funds that will support the outreach programs of the SPA, to raise awareness of the SPA offerings throughout the community and state, and to provide students with the opportunity to organize, produce, direct, and perform in a professional-quality show in a renowned concert hall. Urinetown is a satirical comedy musical that pokes fun at politics, greed, musical theater, and even its own name. It takes place in a world where water is so scarce that you have to pay to pee, and the rates keep going up. It opened on Broadway in 2001 and was nominated for 10 Tony awards and won three. UMaine's production of Urinetown will feature over 60 students, faculty, staff, and guest artists, and will take place in Hauck auditorium for seven performances.

Violinist Richard Hsu is an active soloist and chamber musician. Richard has performed with Orchestra of St. Luke's, Clarion Society, Early Music New York, New York State Baroque Ensemble, American Classical Orchestra, and Concert Royal. He was formerly Associate Concertmaster with the Moscow Ballet at Spoleto Festival USA. He holds a performer diploma and bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the Indiana University School of Music. He furthered his studies at Manhattan School of Music. Richard has recently performed recitals with pianist Anastasia Antonacos at Burnt Cove Church in Stonington. He has also collaborated with cellist Noreen Silver and pianist …
