Funded by a National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources Foundations Grant, the UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture’s “Mapping Renewal” pilot project focused on creating access to and providing spatial context to archival materials related to racial segregation and urban renewal in the city of Little Rock, Arkansas, from 1954-1989. An unplanned interdisciplinary collaboration with the UA Little Rock Arkansas Economic Development Institute (AEDI) has proven to be an invaluable partnership. This document provides background information to the Finding Aid to the Cunningham Collection. Dr Kenneth Stewart Cunningham (1890 – 1976) was a leading Australian educationalist and educational researcher who was instrumental in the creation and development of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). After his death in 1976, Dr Cunningham’s daughter, Lesley Cunningham, became the custodian of her father’s personal papers. Much of this material was donated to the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) by Lesley Cunningham a few years before her death.

This is a finding aid to the first box accessioned as part of the Cunningham Collection. The collection contains papers, documents, photographs, films, and ephemera pertaining to Dr Cunningham’s personal and professional life, as well as a few items from his wife, Ella, and daughter, Lesley. The collections items range from personal and professional correspondence and records (such as memberships to various organisations), a large album of French photographic postcards from the WWI period, several passports (including one United Nations diplomatic passport), a selection of pocket diaries, travel diaries, address books, notebooks, notes/memos, some publications (including Dr Cunningham’s Columbia University …

The K-12 schools in Paris and Bourbon County, Kentucky were segregated from the earliest schools developed after the U.S. Civil War up to the 1960s. This presentation was an overview of the development of the schools, the decrease in the student populations, and school integration in the Paris and Bourbon County schools. The presentation was an opportunity for all students, of all races, to share their memories and the memorabilia they had with them.

This paper is a report of a collaborative research project that identified the competencies undergraduate history majors should have related to finding and using archival materials. The boundary-spanning collaboration involved archivists, librarians, and history faculty.
Historians have long relied upon archives as essential source material, and recent studies confirmed the continued significance of archives to research in this field. However, there is no detailed listing of the archival research competencies that college history students should attain. Without a clearly defined list upon which history faculty, archivists, and library liaisons to history departments agree, teaching about archives research is difficult and …
