Using Artificial Intelligence To Mitigate Bottlenecks In Last-Mile Logistics: A Developing Country Perspective, Marvel S. Ogah, Comfort Ademola, Gregory Asiegbu
International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
The digital revolution of the logistic value chain has improved critical aspects of the global supply chain, especially in the aspect of last-mile logistics (LML). Bottlenecks, however, such as delays in deliveries, increased lead times, pollution, poor cost management, and tracking issues, among several others, plague the logistics operations in developing countries. Artificial intelligence (AI) can help mitigate these bottlenecks toward delivering incremental value to the end customers. This paper investigates the extent to which AI has been adopted in the logistics value chain in developing countries using a descriptive approach. Quantitative data were collected from 290 logistics and e-commerce …
Safety Ratings And Their Effect On Operating Costs In The Trucking Industry: A Data-Driven Analysis, Teresa L. Smith
Safety Ratings And Their Effect On Operating Costs In The Trucking Industry: A Data-Driven Analysis, Teresa L. Smith
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This dissertation explored the interplay between safety ratings and financial performance within the transportation sector, with a specific focus on the trucking industry. In an era where safety standards are paramount, the primary objective of the study was to determine the impact of safety ratings on the operating costs of trucking firms. Using a robust methodology grounded in quantitative analysis and industry-specific secondary data, the study established empirical connections between safety ratings and operating costs. This included a focused effort to identify direct effects, highlighting the potential influence of lower safety ratings on economic outcomes within the trucking industry.

Information Technology & Decision Sciences Faculty Publications
The automotive industry is evolving due to the increasing adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs). This transition has impacted automotive vehicles and led to profound changes in the supply chain ecosystem. Through a comprehensive review of the available literature and industry reports, this research investigates the automotive industry’s transition towards EVs and subsequent supply chain transformation, focusing on the changing roles of automotive suppliers. In this paper, we assess these transformations from economic, environmental, and strategic viewpoints. We examine the impact of these changes on supplier relationships, supplier OEM collaboration, and new entrants’ potential for disruption, as well as propose strategies …

With the Philippines’ archipelagic geography, air transport is the most efficient way to connect its islands and boost economic activities. Using the latest Philippine input-output tables (National Statistical Coordination Board, 2006; Philippine Statistics Authority, 2014, 2017), the air transport sector proves to be the leading driver of economic activities. Ranking first relative to all other sectors in the economy, in terms of backward linkages, indicates its general dependence on the rest of the economy for inputs to the services that it provides.

An Efficient Real-World Food Delivery System : The Dabbawallas Of Mumbai, Ashok Kumar, Stephen T Margulis, Jaideep Motwani
IIMB Management Review
The “Dabbawalla” or tiffin carrier system that operates in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is unique and incredible in the complexity and enormity of its task, simplicity of its operation, and surprisingly low error rates for a system of its size. It is a daily service in which thousands of men carry and deliver over 200,000 lunches every day, within three hour block of time, across the city’s 70-kilometre stretch, with each lunch box (known as tiffin or dabba) changing hands at least four times. Yet, for all its complexity and size, it is run and managed by a group of largely …
Freight Transport Deregulation And Its Impact In New Zealand, Gagadish C Guria
Freight Transport Deregulation And Its Impact In New Zealand, Gagadish C Guria
IIMB Management Review
In recent years a move towards deregulation, i.e. the replacement of quantity restrictions on the number of licences, on maximum and/or minimum rates, on geographic boundaries of operation etc., by quality restriction on drivers’ qualifications and systems of operation, has become a significant development in the transport policy of many countries: Australia. Sweden, Switzerland,U.K., USA, and New Zealand. The trend was first set in Australia, in 1954 when the interstate freight transport was deregulated. Later on this trend spread to individual states: South Australia in 1968 and New South Wales in 1974. In Sweden a move towards deregulation was initiated …
