Do Satisfied Tourists Really Intend To Come Back? Three Concerns With Empirical Studies Linking Satisfaction To Behavioral Intentions, Sara Dolnicar, Tim Coltman, Rajeev Sharma

Tim Coltman

Explaining human behavior is a primary concern for tourism research and a substantial body of research concludes that highly satisfied tourists are more likely to return to a particular destination. In this article, we provide an analysis of this body of work, arriving at three concerns relating to the strength of association between satisfaction and behavioral intention: (1) the link between constructs is complex, resulting in the frequent omission of causal factors; (2) inconsistency with construct operationalization impedes cumulative knowledge development; and (3) explainable variance is impeded by between-study heterogeneity. We illustrate these problems by analyzing empirical guest survey data …

The Association Between Aircraft Fleet Variety And Fuel Efficiency, Matthew J. Judd Mar 2014

The Association Between Aircraft Fleet Variety And Fuel Efficiency, Matthew J. Judd

Matthew J. Judd

One consideration for aircraft operators is how to have the most efficient fleet composition. Fleet makeup could be a diversified fleet makeup or a standardized fleet makeup. The decision is important because it shapes the way the fleet is operated. I examined the effect of aircraft type variety on fleet-wide fuel efficiency. The research hypothesis was that a varied fleet is more fuel efficient than a homogenous fleet. The hypothesis was tested through an analysis of academic and government literature and data. A correlation analysis through evaluation of scatterplots between number of aircraft types and fuel use per seat mile …

Measuring The Quality Of Ecotourism Services: Case Study–Based Model Validation, Nor’Aini Yusof, Faiz Abd Rahman, Mohd Fitri Che Jamil, Mohammad Iranmanesh

Mohammad Iranmanesh

Ecotourism forms the pillar of the country’s tourism industry. Ecotourists make up more than 10% of international tourists in Malaysia. When service quality is thought of as an important factor to the success of tourism service providers, the importance of estimating service quality provided to tourists becomes apparent. Estimating service quality provides tourism service providers with the necessary information needed to manage their marketing operations appropriately. Therefore, this estimation should be performed with the right measurement scales. Despite the high volume of research on service quality (SERVQUAL) models in recent years, limited effort has been directed toward improving the tool …

Innovative Activity Of Small Tourist Enterprises – Cooperation With Local Institutional Partners, Marta Najda-Janoszka Jan 2013

Innovative Activity Of Small Tourist Enterprises – Cooperation With Local Institutional Partners, Marta Najda-Janoszka

Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation JEMI

According to the open innovation model an effective strategy for increasing innovation and competitiveness of the region should be based on active and multilevel cooperation among operators of the local tourism business environment. It is commonly assumed that an exceptionally important role in creating a favorable environment for the cooperative practices in the region is performed by local authorities. Yet, a modest number of research findings presented in the literature indicate a rather high level of inertia of local authorities in creating appropriate conditions for tourism business development, thus putting in question the effectiveness of performed intermediary function in the …

A Born Global Gradually Advancing Its Internationalization - A Case Study Of Internationalization Process Of A Small Tour Operator In A Niche Market, Karolina Nessel

Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation JEMI

Today much is already known about the internationalization patterns of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Thus, the paper undertakes an exploratory research in order to verify to what extent the common framework of analysis may explain an internationalization path of SMEs in the tourism sector. To this goal, a case study of a small tour operator in a niche market of weddings abroad in Poland is undertaken. The research seeks to match the firm’s internationalization characteristics with …
