The overall goal of this study was to examine Revenue Management (RM) practices in Las Vegas casino resorts. A great deal of research has been done on RM in the hospitality industry. The academic research has examined RM in hospitality in general, but not specifically in casino resorts, which gain their revenue from both rooms and resort amenities. Moreover, the academic literature often show high-level mathematic-based solutions or statistical applications, but not necessarily pragmatic techniques for practitioners. For a second year, the organizer of the Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival (CNSJF) commissioned the Dick Pope Sr. Institute for Tourism Studies (DPITS) to prepare a report on perceptions of attendees of the festival. Additionally, the project investigated the value of the event as well as the economic benefits the event brings to Curacao. A survey instrument was designed and used to assess the perceptions of perceived value of event attendees. The survey was completed during the event which was held September 2-3, 2011. Take Me Out Of The Ball Game: The Efficacy Of Public Subsidies In The Success Of Professional Sports Stadiums, Jonah Chodosh

This paper weights the relative advantages of multiple factors that lead to the success of professional sports stadiums in major markets, though a discussion of the arguments for and against public subsidies towards these projects. Using a logit statistical model, the paper determines that the two factors determining the highest likelihood of venue success include multiple tenants and access to mass transit. The analysis demonstrates that public subsidies towards stadiums don’t generate sufficient economic returns, and that successful stadiums can be created without using taxpayer funds.

The purpose of the study is to explore the accuracy of the Input-Output model and its derivative, the Occupation-Based model in investigating the impacts of the 2007 economic crisis on the tourism-related industries and the local economy in the Metro Orlando Area, Florida. The 2007-2008 total visitor expenditure change is taken as an initial shock from the economic crisis on the region's tourism-related industries, and the total impacts are measured in terms of industry output (sales), employment and annual occupational wage. Economic Impact And Skier Characteristics: Montana , Norma P. Nickerson, Kara Grau

Seven ski resorts in Montana participated in the first economic impact of the alpine ski industry in Montana. Extrapolating the data to all Montana resorts shows that 35 percent of skiers are nonresidents who contribute a combined impact of $83 million dollars to the state. Nonresidents spent $1,252/ski trip/group while in Montana. Residents spent an average of $138/ski trip/group. More nonresidents came from Alberta, Minnesota, Washington and North Dakota than any other state. Residents traveled 75 miles on average to access the ski area.

Statewide Vacationers To Montana: Are They Geotravelers? , Dylan Boyle, Norma P. Nickerson

Nonresident vacationers in Montana were surveyed concerning their geotraveler behaviors as well as what was important to them while traveling in Montana. The study found that vacationers do exhibit geotraveler tendencies and can be divided into strong and moderate geotravelers. Strong geotravelers represent 34 percent of vacationers, and they were the youngest, most educated, and most affluent group.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to assess the economic impact of the cultural tourism market in Aruba and determine whether cultural tourism could enhance the Aruba product. Design: 386 intercept surveys to international tourists at the Reina Beatrix Airport were conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics of Aruba during the month of July, 2009. Geotourism is a new niche segment of sustainable tourism focused on sustaining and enhancing the geographical character of a place. The purpose of this study was to answer the question: "to what degree do visitors in the 'Crown of the Continent' share the values of geotourism?" Visitors to sites on National Geographic's Crown of the Continent geotourism mapguide were intercepted and asked to fill out a survey regarding their travel values.
