Daily Fantasy Sites Engage In A Legal War For Survival, Danni R. Santana

Capstones

Over the past two years, the world has changed its perception of daily fantasy sports. FanDuel and DraftKings have taken the world by storm, making huge profits off even the casual fans desire to win money everyday, instead of just once at the end of a season. Lawmakers have noticed and are eager to regulate the business or ban it altogether, as seen in New York. What was once a weekend hobby is now a multi-billion dollar business. A business lawmakers say is just another form of gambling and doesn't require skill.

We Met At The Beach: Examining Sense Of Community Through Charity Sporting Events, Daniel Nabben Jan 2015

We Met At The Beach: Examining Sense Of Community Through Charity Sporting Events, Daniel Nabben

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Researchers have studied the social value of large-scale events in creating a sense of community but not the role small-scale charity sporting events play in fostering a sense of community. There is also a need to examine which managerial aspects may contribute to building a sense of community through small-scale charity sporting events. To focus on that gap in the literature, I utilized a micro-ethnographic approach to examine recreational charity beach volleyball tournaments held on Jeju Island, South Korea, hosted by the charity organization, ‘Jeju Furey’. As an organizer and participant of these beach volleyball tournaments, my insider’s perspective complements …

U.S. Collegiate Athletics: International Student Athletes Recruiting Process, Evelyn S. Jara

Theses and Dissertations

The pressure to win has grown as a result of the billions of dollars invested in collegiate athletics and the increasing national media attention, and coaches and administrators are searching for an athletic edge (Wieberg, 2008). There are a limited number of American athletes that have the skills to impact the collegiate level. Competition to attract the top domestic players is high, so coaches turn to larger, international recruiting arenas with less competition (Riley, 1997). The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulates collegiate Sports in the United States, which is the only place in the world that provides the opportunity …
