The National Basketball Association (NBA) has slowly become one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the United States as well as growing its reach in European and Chinese ties. With this growth, we have seen the value of NBA teams climb significantly. Mark Cuban, a well-known entrepreneur and Shark on ABC’s Shark Tank, purchased the Dallas Mavericks for $285 million in 2000. They are now worth a staggering $2.5 billion (as of 2021). Statistics from previous seasons suggest what could have occurred had there not been an agreement prior to the start of the season, while the new agreement suggest the motivation behind the new agreement.

Athletic departments could use this information to anticipate future violations and stop them before they occur.
What was already known was that schools that win, generate a larger profit than those who don’t. The method …

Player Performance And Team Revenues: Nba Player Salary Analysis, Tyler Stanek
CMC Senior Theses
The National Basketball Association (NBA) generated well over $4 billion in revenues during the 2014-15 season. I analyze the value of a win to a team in terms of revenue and examine the potential underpayment or overpayment of players and superstars throughout the league relative to their marginal revenue product (MRP). My findings suggest that players are overpaid, especially superstars. However, it is important to consider the fixed-revenue streams a team receives before assuming a player is simply overpaid compared to his MRP. In congruence with previous literature, I find that veterans are overpaid at the expense of younger players’ …

Collegiate athletics has long been a part of the American university setting. It is difficult to argue that athletics does not have an impact on the overall university. However, there is much debate as to whether the overall impact of collegiate athletics on a university is beneficial, and to what degree. As universities invest resources toward the betterment of athletic programs, it is important to critically analyze whether this is a worthy investment for a university as a whole. This paper provides an analysis of the impact of collegiate athletics on a university, looking primarily at return on investment both …
