Open Educational Resources
This course examines the creation and evolution of mortgage pass-through securities, real estate investment trusts (REITs), commingled real estate funds (CREFs), and commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBSs). These developments have had profound effects on the real estate markets, including how they have led to greater flexibility and transparency in those markets, and how they have affected the valuations and pricing efficiency of markets for real estate assets. This course will help students develop a clear understanding of the workings of and opportunities in the real estate capital markets.

Small businesses are just beginning to unlock the power of social media marketing, specifically real estate professionals. Shelly Chaiken created the Heuristic Systematic Model of persuasion, the descendant of the Elaboration Likelihood Model. This study applies the tenets of Chaiken's HSM to the methods of persuasion employed by real estate agents via Facebook and Twitter. Does The Reit Tale Wag The Dog? The Relationship Between Tenant Ownership And The Volatility Of Retail Reit Stock Returns, Dana G. Staley
CMC Senior Theses
This paper will assess the relationship between tenant characteristics and public REIT volatility. Specifically, we focus on the retail REIT subset of the industry. Given that retail REITs are one the most transparent asset classes, they provide an interesting landscape for evaluating the relationship between the firm and the customers, or in this case, the tenants. Specifically, we assess how major tenant ownership, public or private equity owned, impacts the volatility of the REIT’s stock price using 2010 data on 30 retail REITs. Controlling for tenant credit quality, leverage, ROE, book-to-market, size, age, region and property focus, we find that …
