The Impact Of Globalization On Domestic Growth In Africa, Thomas L. Ainscough, Todd M. Shank

Research into the impacts of globalization on domestic growth in Africa has been scarce and the results of the research that does exist have been mixed. This research addresses this gap in the literature by using the newly revised KOF Globalization Index to determine the impact of social, political, and financial globalization on African economies. The KOF Index was revised substantially in 2019. Our full data set includes 40 years of data, from 1980-2019. The current pandemic accentuated the need for a more responsible tourism system, where local food production and consumption become a cornerstone of sustainable tourism futures. Experiences embedded in natural environments are neither new nor recent, but the pandemic urged tourism stakeholders to look at nature again as a source of inspiration for tourism regeneration. The research analyses the configuration of gastronomic experiences in protected areas through the philosophy of a gourmet restaurant located in a volcanic setting in Catalonia, north-eastern Spain.

The hospitality industry of the United States continues to thrive and grow each year with millions of tourists and business visitors. Florida, and specifically Orlando are leaders in U.S. tourist destinations. The industry’s growth has been stimulated by foreign direct investment, including the EB-5 visa program, which in 2016 contributed almost $4 billion of inward capital investment. The hospitality industry receives one of the largest portions of total EB-5 investment, about 31%. Florida ranks 2nd to New York among a handful of other states that receive the most EB-5 investment. The financial crisis in 2008/2009 has made many countries aware that public funds need to be managed better. A logical step is to identify methods that thoroughly assess the impacts of infrastructure and service investment. The authors argue that assessments should both identify and use performance indicators related to the ‘triple bottom line’, i.e. economic, social and environmental impacts.

This paper provides an overview of assessment methods used to evaluate public transport investments. Positive and negative aspects of various assessment tools are identified and discussed. Some developing world examples appear to be more elaborate and appropriate, than developed world examples, …
