JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 2022) – “When students decide they want to go into health care, they typically think of two things – a physician or a nurse. However, if you look at what comprises the health care team, it’s allied health professionals making up two-thirds of the team, and that’s a wide description of everybody else besides nurses or physicians,” says Dr. Don Samples, dean of the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences at East Tennessee State University.
“It’s the physical therapists, the occupational therapists, the speech-language pathologists, the respiratory therapists, the radiographers, the nutritionists and social workers,” …

Disney's Strategic Marketing Tactics For Children Ages 2-10, Sydney Geist
Senior Honors Theses
One of the many ways Disney is a successful organization is because of the effective use of marketing. For Disney to be able to have effective marketing tactics within the entire target audience, market segmentation must take place. A prevalent segment within Disney’s target market is children ages 2-10. There are differences in emotional maturity and interests throughout this age range which requires Disney to start the process of segmentation. Many factors that encompass the process of segmentation are attitudes, interests, and opinions that define this segment. Best Practices For And Outcomes Of Implementing Live Cases In Marketing Courses, Jeff S. Johnson, Shannon Cummins
Marketing & Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications
Purpose of the Study: This study aims to improve the implementation of live cases (client-based projects) in marketing classrooms. Live cases involve direct interaction between companies and students and can be valuable pedagogical tools improving student learning and skill development. However, live cases can be difficult to implement, creating uncertainty for faculty and possibly tipping the risk-reward balance away from this approach. At present, the preponderance of live case research in marketing has been constrained to small sample sizes, leaving faculty to question whether the implementation insights provided will generalize across different contexts and faculty. Method/Design and Sample: This paper …

Detoxing From Clean Claims: Bridging The Gap Between "Clean" And "Dirty" Beauty, Alecsandra Dragus
William & Mary Business Law Review
The clean beauty industry has gained increasing popularity in the last couple of years. This has spurred the development of many brands and impacted what consumers look for in their products. This Note engages in the existing conversation in the beauty industry pertaining to "clean" products by showing that the lack of interference from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to set definitional criteria for what constitute ''clean" products has resulted in an increase in the commercialization of health-conscious consumer beliefs based on ambiguous and misleading information. These consumers are stuck in a loop …

Purpose: Product innovations are often the result of combinations of internal and external knowledge. A significant amount of Open Innovation literature has argued that working with external partners can be beneficial, in particular when this is complemented by internal R&D yet a wholesale shift to Open Innovation has not occurred. Our work demonstrates two new limits of openness, grounded in attention-based theory, that help explain why such a shift has not occurred. We argue that specific combinations of identities a firm collaborates with, i.e., whether a partner is classified as a customer, supplier, competitor, or university and/or technological center predictably …

From Amazon Prime to Panera Bread’s Unlimited Sip Club, loyalty programs have become commonplace in a wide variety of industries. However, despite their popularity, it’s not always clear whether these programs are actually profitable. The authors analyzed data from 24,000 customers at a large Asian retailer to explore the various factors that can drive a program’s profitability, and identified three takeaways to help managers ensure their subscription programs are a net positive: They recommend that managers should go beyond averages and analyze trends on an individual level, measure the underlying factors that drive changes in revenues, and remember to account …
