Wayne Dyer, and “Depth of Fields” featuring artworks by his former students, are on display through March 19 and March 26, respectively.

The free code BuckyTransfer21 can be used by transfer applicants beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, through 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 17, 2021) – “Black Men in White Coats,” a documentary film by Dr. Dale Okorodudu, is available to view at no charge for East Tennessee State University students, faculty and staff through 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20.
According to Okorodudu, fewer Black men applied to medical school in 2014 than in 1978, and Black men have the lowest life expectancy in the United States. Only 2% of American doctors are Black men. In his documentary, Okorodudu dissects the systemic barriers preventing Black men from becoming medical doctors and the consequences for society at large.

East Tennessee State University is saddened by the passing of Dr. Brian Odle, who died Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at the age of 53.
Dr. Odle, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, came to ETSU Bill Gatton College ofPharmacy in 2007. His unique teaching style combined memorable storytelling with practical knowledge. Dr. Odle was loved by his students, as well as faculty and staff.

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 16, 2021) – The U.S. Department of Education has announced that East Tennessee State University will receive the federally funded Student Support Services (SSS) grant totaling $348,002 annually for five years to help more first-generation and low-income students and students with disabilities succeed and graduate. ETSU has been a recipient of an SSS grant to support traditional and non-traditional students since 1976.

Content Analysis Of Hospital Reviews From Differing Sources: Does Review Source Matter?, Sayeedul Islam, Sara Mir, Caroline Defina, Carolina Silva
Journal of Excellence in Nursing and Healthcare Practice
Social media has had an impact on how patients find and evaluate medical professionals and their experiences of modern healthcare. Qualitative research in healthcare has increased its focus on social media. The present study examined 497 reviews of hospitals in the Pittsburgh area across three websites: Google, Yelp, and Healthgrades. Using computerized content analysis tools (CATA), we analyzed positive and negative comments to identify key themes. Key themes and words included “doctor,” “hospital,” “staff,” and “time.” These findings highlight the importance of medical staff to patient experience. Results indicated that Yelp had the lowest average rating. CATA also revealed that …

Purpose
Prosocial advertisers widely use assertive messages to encourage prosocial attitudes and behaviors, but ironically, assertive messages may cause reactance. By applying cultural theories and the reciprocity principle, this study aims to observe whether consumers’ responses to assertive messages hold across culturally different audiences (Americans vs South Koreans) and different consumption situations (price discount vs no discount).

The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) began reporting on the status of women in Utah politics in 2014, with updates in 2017 and now 2021. The first series of reports in 2014 were initially prompted by the Center for American Progress report titled “The State of Women in America: A 50-State Analysis of How Women Are Faring Across the Nation” that ranked Utah last in terms of women being in positions of decision making and leadership. JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 3, 2021) – Students in East Tennessee State University’s College of Nursing have had the opportunity to assist with COVID-19 vaccinations during their clinical rotations in partnership with Ballad Health.
“This is a historic moment for our nursing students,” said Dr. Kathryn Wilhoit, interim dean of the ETSU College of Nursing. “Nurses around the globe and right here in Appalachia were on the front lines of care during in the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, and now more than a century later, they are playing a critical role in vaccinating the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 2, 2021) – East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy is offering two free virtual Open House events for students interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy:
• Pre-Pharmacy Virtual Open House, Feb. 23, 4:30-6 p.m. for high school students
• PharmD Virtual Open House, Feb. 27, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for students ready to begin classes in the Fall
