Predicting Cross-Gaming Propensity Using E-Chaid Analysis, Eunju Suh, Matt Alhaery Jun 2015

Predicting Cross-Gaming Propensity Using E-Chaid Analysis, Eunju Suh, Matt Alhaery

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

Cross-selling different types of games could provide an opportunity for casino operators to generate additional time and money spent on gaming from existing patrons. One way to identify the patrons who are likely to cross-play is mining individual players’ gaming data using predictive analytics. Hence, this study aims to predict casino patrons’ propensity to play both slots and table games, also known as cross-gaming, by applying a data-mining algorithm to patrons’ gaming data. The Exhaustive Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detector (E-CHAID) method was employed to predict cross-gaming propensity. The E-CHAID models based on the gaming-related behavioral data produced actionable model accuracy …

Social media marketing has become the newest form of advertising for companies. The mobile-social platform, Instagram, has become an important tool for marketing. About two-thirds of big companies are already using Instagram to their advantage. There are no set guidelines on how companies should be advertising themselves on Instagram but there are patterns. The purpose of the study is to find out which Instagram marketing technique out of the three I’ve chosen can be the most successful when trying to achieve more followers, have a wider brand recognition, and increase sales. The Nostalgia Effect: A Field Investigation Of Satisfaction Among Is/It Professionals In India, Robert O. Briggs

Marketing and Management Faculty Publications

Satisfaction is a key indicator of system success, and so it has been the subject of much Information System (IS) research. The nostalgia effect, whereby individuals feel satisfied or dissatisfied when thinking about past goal attainment or failure, has been observed to influence analysts’ decisions with respect to ongoing systems development. The Yield Shift Theory (YST) of Satisfaction explains the nostalgia effect as a function of changes in yield for an individual’s active goal set. This paper reports on an exploratory field investigation of the nostalgia effect among 105 working IS/IT professionals in India reflecting on past collaboration experiences. The …

The Economics Of Successful Billboard Advertising, Alexa Thomas Jun 2015

The Economics Of Successful Billboard Advertising, Alexa Thomas

Graphic Communication

This study explains the economics of billboard advertising, specifically pertaining to the internal and external elements that make them effective for both consumers and the brand. Billboards have been used as an advertising medium for more than a century, and are still used today. The question is, “What about billboards make them so effective?” Secondary research was examined to better understand the history of billboards, how they compare to other mediums, and the elements experts consider throughout the campaign process. After analyzing secondary articles and studies, primary research was conducted by interviewing a sample of consumers and experts to determine …

A synthesis and assessment of findings led to the exploration of the ways that the terms of Dayton and the implementation of Dayton by NATO IFOR, Task Force Eagle, 1st Armored Division (November and December 1995) and 1st Infantry Division (1996-2004), US Army, contributed to the …

War, Civil Unrest, Failed States, And Other Extreme Threats To Marketing Systems, Clifford J. Shultz, Samer Abdelnour Jun 2015

War, Civil Unrest, Failed States, And Other Extreme Threats To Marketing Systems, Clifford J. Shultz, Samer Abdelnour

School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Well-functioning markets and marketing systems are intended to enhance and to sustain the survivability and security of societies and the people who comprise them (e.g., Fisk 1967; Layton 2007; McMillen 2002; Shultz 2007; Wilkie and Moore 1999; World Bank 2014). For myriad reasons – natural or human-induced cataclysms and resource scarcity to list a few examples – marketing systems sometimes are disrupted or fracture (e.g., Shultz 1997; in press). This can have profound and often horrific effects on individuals, families, communities, countries, regions, and occasionally – at least twice in the form of two World Wars – global upheaval. The …

Does Brand Licensing Increase A Licensor's Shareholder Value?, Adina B. Robinson, Kapil R. Tuli, Ajay K. Kohli Jun 2015

Does Brand Licensing Increase A Licensor's Shareholder Value?, Adina B. Robinson, Kapil R. Tuli, Ajay K. Kohli

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

This study examines 171 brand licensing announcements and subsequent changes in the licensor firms' shareholder values using the event study method. We find that although brand licensing announcements lead to positive abnormal returns on average, nearly 44% of the announcements in our sample are followed by negative abnormal returns. We argue that investors react more favorably to a brand licensing announcement when they believe (i) the brand has greater ability to stimulate licensee product sales (and thus generate higher royalties for the licensor) and (ii) the licensor firm has greater ability to limit licensee opportunism (and thus limit brand dilution …

Marketing Mix And Brand Sales In Global Markets: Examining The Contingent Role Of Country-Market Characteristics, S. Cem Bahadir, Sundar G. Bharadwaj, Rajendra K. Srivastava Jun 2015

Marketing Mix And Brand Sales In Global Markets: Examining The Contingent Role Of Country-Market Characteristics, S. Cem Bahadir, Sundar G. Bharadwaj, Rajendra K. Srivastava

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Marketing products globally is challenging due to the diverse nature of markets. We use market heterogeneity, unbranded competition, resource and infrastructure availability, and sociopolitical governance as country-market characteristics that distinguish between developed and emerging countries. We investigate their moderating role on the relationship between elements of the marketing mix and brand sales. We provide evidence, from a hierarchical linear model and a panel data set of brands from 14 emerging and developed markets that account for 62% of the global GDP, that country-market characteristics moderate the relationship between the complete set of marketing mix elements and brand sales performance asymmetrically. …

Think Unbound: Changing The Way People View And Teach Creativity In The Work Environment, Michael Wienke May 2015

Think Unbound: Changing The Way People View And Teach Creativity In The Work Environment, Michael Wienke

Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection

The traditional model of innovation in the workplace leaves no room for the true meandering nature of innovation and thus detracts from effective workplace innovation. This paper presents a new non-linear model, the Clover Model, which guides thinkers through a flexible and interconnected six-step process of innovation while still allowing room for the cycles and epicycles of real-world innovation. The “clover” refers to the 4 interconnected critical and creative thinking epicycles (investigation, ideation, incubation and refinement) that come together at a central point and allow thinkers to follow the natural ebbs and flows of innovation by seamlessly transitioning between clover …
