JOHNSON CITY (April 7, 2020) – Megan (Meg) Dew, a second-year master of social work (M.S.W.) student at East Tennessee State University, recently was named the recipient of the 2020 National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Tennessee Chapter M.S.W. Student of the Year.
The award is usually presented at Social Work Day on the Hill in Nashville. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was cancelled, and the ETSU Department of Social Work, located in the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, was notified of Dew’s award.

JOHNSON CITY (April 3, 2020) – The South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, sponsored by Mary B. Martin School of the Arts at East Tennessee State University, will present free online virtual screenings of four films from the tour series’ “Purple Circuit.”

JOHNSON CITY (April 3, 2020) – Campaigning has looked different this year, with the East Tennessee State University campus closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the university’s Student Government Association elections will be held as scheduled, with online voting to take place Wednesday and Thursday, April 8-9.
Virtual campaigning has been going on for the last few days, and students are encouraged to visit https://www.etsu.edu/sga/sgaelection.php for information about the election from SGA and candidate questionnaires from the East Tennessean, ETSU’s student newspaper. JOHNSON CITY (April 2, 2020) – The Gray Fossil Site in Gray, Tennessee, is famous for preserving the remains of a 5-million-year-old Appalachian ecosystem. Not only do these fossils include a variety of ancient animals like rhinos, mastodons and pandas, they also include a forest’s worth of ancient plants. And that list of plants is now a bit longer thanks to a pair of recent studies identifying two extinct Gray Fossil Site plant species that are entirely new to science.

JOHNSON CITY (April 2, 2020) — During a called meeting of East Tennessee State University’s Board of Trustees Finance and Administration Committee on Wednesday, a motion was passed to not increase tuition and mandatory fees for the 2020-21 academic year contingent on the approval of the Governor’s budget. The ETSU Board of Trustees will vote on the recommendation at its quarterly meeting on April 24.

When ETSU Health turned its attention to setting up a drive-through testing site to increase the availability of COVID-19 testing in the region in mid-March, Dr. Kevin Breuel and his laboratory team at ETSU Clinical Labs (ECL) played a pivotal role in making it happen.
By working with outside reference labs, they were able to ensure that ETSU Health would get enough test collection kits to provide this vital service to the community. They also worked closely with the COVID leadership team to monitor and decrease turnaround time for test results.

JOHNSON CITY (April 1, 2020) – With an increase in regional COVID-19 testing capacity, ETSU Health will close its drive-through COVID-19 testing site, located at 325 North State of Franklin, effective April 1, 2020. While the drive-through site will no longer be open, ETSU Health will continue to administer COVID-19 testing in its clinics.

JOHNSON CITY – The Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University is asking local residents to document their personal experiences of living through the COVID-19 pandemic here in the region.

JOHNSON CITY (March 25, 2020) – Beginning next week, ETSU Health is bringing medical care closer to home for its patients by offering telemedicine appointments. Telemedicine is the use of electronic audio and video communication to provide remote health care services to patients.

JOHNSON CITY (March 25, 2020) – Health care workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak need personal protective equipment to reduce exposure and limit spread of the disease. East Tennessee State University and community partners are addressing the shortage of medical equipment by developing and manufacturing face shields.

The top-seeded Buccaneers defeated the seventh-seeded Wofford Terriers 72-58 in Monday’s Southern Conference Championship at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville. The Bucs became the fourth team in the 100-year history of the SoCon to reach the 30-win mark after improving to 30-4 on the season. The Blue and Gold join Wofford (30-5, 2018-19), North Carolina (30-5, 1945-46) and North Carolina State (30-7, 1950-51) as the only teams to accomplish the feat.
