JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 9, 2021) – The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at East Tennessee State University has announced Dr. Aruna Kilaru and Vanessa Mayoraz as the 2021 recipients of the Notable Women of ETSU award.
The two award recipients will be honored at 5 p.m. on Nov. 17 during the 20th Annual Notable Women of ETSU Colloquium. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 8, 2021) – East Tennessee State University’s Center of Excellence for Appalachian Studies and Services announces that the Archives of Appalachia and B. Carroll Reece Museum have received $225,000 in funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The funding will support a project to enhance online access to collections and artifacts that document diverse voices in southern Appalachia.

JOHNSON CITY – (November 2, 2021) The new comedy “Men on Boats” will make its regional premiere this month as the Department of Theatre and Dance at East Tennessee State University kicks off its 2021-22 season.

As he approaches the Thanksgiving holiday, graduate student Cory Whitfield remains grateful for a mentor’s powerful impact on his journey at East Tennessee State University.
Whitfield, who will graduate with his Master of Social Work in May 2022, would not have been able to attend ETSU if not for the late Dr. Angela Radford Lewis, an ETSU administrator who served as vice provost and special assistant to the president for strategic initiatives at ETSU before her death in 2019.

All proceeds will benefit the Willow Unit at Woodridge Hospital, which is a 12-bed unit offering inpatient psychiatric care to children and adolescents in a caring, comfortable environment. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – East Tennessee State University recently received a report that reveals student voting increased significantly during last year’s presidential election, rising from 46.8% in 2016 to 64.3% in 2020 for a total 17.5% increase overall.
The report comes from the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE), founders of the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement, or NSLVE.

(Nov. 22, 2021) Master’s degree student Emily Napier won East Tennessee State University’s recent 2021 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition with a presentation on “The Instructor-Student Relationship: An Interpersonal Perspective.”
This competition, created at the University of Queensland, Australia, provides graduate students the opportunity to develop professional presentation and research communication skills. Participants condense complex research projects into engaging, three-minute presentations designed for a general audience using just one slide. Audience members learn what students in master’s and doctoral programs are studying and gain insight into the future of research, design and innovation in a variety of disciplines.
