Intention To Pursue A Sales Career: A Dyadic Study Of Students And Parents Extended Abstract, Joseph Little, Mark Kubik, Alexander King, Grant Weidman Jan 2022

Intention To Pursue A Sales Career: A Dyadic Study Of Students And Parents Extended Abstract, Joseph Little, Mark Kubik, Alexander King, Grant Weidman

AMTP Proceedings 2022

Typical career choice selection studies generally have been one sided focusing on students or parents independently. This dyadic study aims to analyze student and their parent influencers to determine what will be the strongest influencer of a student to pursue a career in sales. “Because the dyad is arguable the fundamental unit of interpersonal interaction and relations, family relations such as a parent and their child/student have a powerful dyadic component” (Kenny et al., 2006, p1). Therefore, understanding the influencers of this career choice selection may lead to interventions for increasing the number of students to pursue a career in …

From Customizing Products To Possessive Bonds: The Role Of Consumer Involvement And Consumer Privacy Concern, Hua Chang, Lingling Zhang Jan 2022

From Customizing Products To Possessive Bonds: The Role Of Consumer Involvement And Consumer Privacy Concern, Hua Chang, Lingling Zhang

AMTP Proceedings 2022

Despite the prevalence of customized products and service in the marketplace, little research has examined the impact of customization on consumers. The current research investigates the role of brand customization on consumers’ brand relationship and brand attitude. The findings from two experiments demonstrate that consumers with high involvement (vs. low) will have more positive brand relationship and brand attitude. In addition, consumer’s privacy concern moderates this relationship such that the identified positive effect exists only for those with a low privacy concern.

Going Green: Carving A Niche In A Global Market, Ahmed Maamoun Jan 2022

Going Green: Carving A Niche In A Global Market, Ahmed Maamoun

AMTP Proceedings 2022

Companies that do well are described in accounting terms as being “in the black”. This is the accounting term for being profitable. The “black” shows up in the bottom line of the financial statement. Business practices that simultaneously benefit the business, society, and the environment help a firm become more sustainable. The triple bottom line refers to the economic, environmental, and social impacts of an organization. Here the company reaches out to its stakeholders rather than shareholders. However, the triple bottom line approach does not negate the drive for profits, it just does so in the context of also considering …

Investigating How Tacit Knowledge Management Inclination And Explicit Marketing Agendas Impact Business Success., Christine A. Makama

AMTP Proceedings 2022

The purpose of this paper is to develop and propose a framework that illustrates the relationship that exist between tacit knowledge management inclination, internal explicit marketing agendas and external explicit marketing agendas. Furthermore, the paper will also show how these variables act together to enhance business outcomes such as competitive advantage, growth and development, employee’s satisfaction, customers retention, loyalty, and satisfaction. Similarly, the conceptual framework would demonstrate how the assimilation between the variables extends and fill in the gap on conceptual and operational boundaries of existing models on explicit marketing agendas and how they help organizations attain success. And standing …

Professional Networking And Personal Branding With Linkedin During The Covid-19 Pandemic: Personality, Impression Management, And Dirtiness In Digital Contexts, Carlos Valdez, Leslie Connell, Christopher Leo, Jennifer Morin

AMTP Proceedings 2022

The National Center for Education Statistics in the United States reported that the undergraduate program with the most graduates in 2016 were business programs with 372,000 degrees (National Center for Education Statistics, n.d.). According to Robinson (2018), the total enrollment of undergraduate business programs globally among universities accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) from 2012 to 2017 reported a 10% increase. The popularity of the business college degree presents a unique challenge to recent business graduates of how to differentiate from other business graduates to achieve the desired job or promotion in the new COVID-19 …

Impact Of Model Gender On The Effectiveness Of Advertisements Targeted At Older Viewers: An Analysis In The Context Of Ageing, Corinne Chevalier, Gaelle M. Moal Jan 2022

Impact Of Model Gender On The Effectiveness Of Advertisements Targeted At Older Viewers: An Analysis In The Context Of Ageing, Corinne Chevalier, Gaelle M. Moal

AMTP Proceedings 2022

Advertising efficiency relies partly on the viewer’s identification to the model used in the ad and model gender facilitates the identification process. Relying on gerotranscendance theory (Tornstam, 2009), we assume that gender identification is not as important to seniors as it used to be when they were younger and that the gender of the model will have no effect on variables of the persuasion process. The results of a survey on 512 seniors aged 60 to 85 reveals that the model’s gender has little impact on the perception of ads by senior viewers. However, matching product gender and model gender …

Chinese’ Impulsive Shopping Behavior In A Post-Pandemic Era: Exploring The Impact Of Long-Term Orientation On Self Control, And Utilitarian And Hedonic Shopping Values, Pei Wang, Sindy Chapa Jan 2022

Chinese’ Impulsive Shopping Behavior In A Post-Pandemic Era: Exploring The Impact Of Long-Term Orientation On Self Control, And Utilitarian And Hedonic Shopping Values, Pei Wang, Sindy Chapa

AMTP Proceedings 2022

Based on previous premises, the present study proposed a model that aims to understand consumers’ impulsive shopping behavior in China. This study takes into consideration the cultural core value of long-term orientation of Chinese consumers to explore the moderating role of hedonic value, utilitarian value, and self-control on impulsive buying behavior. An online survey was employed using a convenience national sample in China. A total sample of 237 was collected and used to test the proposed model and hypotheses. Theoretically, the study provides an alternative model that explains the role of hedonic value, utilitarian value, and self-control on impulsive online-buying …

The Sport Marketing Portfolio Matrix: How Brand Relevance Aligns With Fan Behavior, Kirk D. Aiken, Richard M. Campbell, Ajay Sukhdial Jan 2022

The Sport Marketing Portfolio Matrix: How Brand Relevance Aligns With Fan Behavior, Kirk D. Aiken, Richard M. Campbell, Ajay Sukhdial

AMTP Proceedings 2022

Many fan behavior studies leave applications for strategic sport marketing as afterthoughts. Likewise, studies of sport marketing practices often ignore the complexities of fan psychology. The purpose of this work is to propose a new model that accurately categorizes sport products, better recognizes fan behaviors, and provides sound guidance to sport marketers. The work applies the well-established theory of portfolio management (wherein, investors strive to receive higher returns with lower risks by managing an assortment of investments). Herein, sport fans are viewed as investors that “buy,” “hold,” and “sell” athletes and teams. From sport to sport and season to season, …

The Lonely Reason Impeding Compliance With Covid-19 Prevention Guidelines, Ainslie E. Schultz, Kevin P. Newman Jan 2022

The Lonely Reason Impeding Compliance With Covid-19 Prevention Guidelines, Ainslie E. Schultz, Kevin P. Newman

AMTP Proceedings 2022

To reduce transmission of the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19), the US Center for Disease Control recommends that all individuals follow a series of prevention guidelines (e.g., wearing a mask, physical distancing, and vigilant handwashing). However, some individuals have been unwilling to comply with them. In this research, we use reciprocal altruism theory to investigate the role of loneliness in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Specifically, we find that lonely (vs. non-lonely) consumers report less willingness to comply with these guidelines. Process evidence demonstrates that this occurs because lonely individuals experience a lower sense of obligation to reciprocate. Importantly, the negative impact …

Does The Sponsorship Of Sports Entities By Gambling Organizations Conform To The Set Of Benefits As Conceptualized In The Model Of Sports Sponsorship?, Sam Fullerton, Michael Mccall, Ronald Dick Jan 2022

Does The Sponsorship Of Sports Entities By Gambling Organizations Conform To The Set Of Benefits As Conceptualized In The Model Of Sports Sponsorship?, Sam Fullerton, Michael Mccall, Ronald Dick

AMTP Proceedings 2022

One recent study produced a model that was structured based upon the benefits derived by four parties that are impacted by a sponsor’s decision to engage in the sponsorship of a sports entity. These sports entities may be a team, a league, an organization, an athlete, an event, or a sports venue. The interactions among the four categories of beneficiaries resulted in 12 discrete linkages. A total of 159 potential benefits, some tangible and some intangible, were documented. A second study examined the impact of a recent SCOTUS ruling that declared the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) to …

When The Going Gets Tough: Motivations Of Customer Helpers’ Further Green Helping Behavior Intentions, Estelle Van Tonder, Boitshepo Cl Mkhondo, Christo Bisschoff, Sam Fullerton

AMTP Proceedings 2022

Environmental conservation is a global concern. Consumers may contribute by persuading their reluctant peers to support green purchasing, but these influencers need to persevere when their advice is not followed. This study provides more insight into the cognitive, affective, and behavioral factors influencing further green helping behavior intentions. Survey data were collected from 452 green product supporters who previously advised someone about green purchasing behavior. Six hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling and bootstrapping. Affective commitment toward fellow customers and green helping behavior in general influences further green helping behavior intentions. Subjective norm and perceived behavioral control only have …

Can Marketing Content Strategies Help Promote Sustainability On Social Media?: Comparing The Effectiveness Of Owned Versus Earned Endorsement, Eilleen R. Plante Nov 2021

Can Marketing Content Strategies Help Promote Sustainability On Social Media?: Comparing The Effectiveness Of Owned Versus Earned Endorsement, Eilleen R. Plante

Honors College Theses

The importance of sustainability is rising as consumers make more environmentally conscious purchases (Neilson, 2018). Despite the growing demand for sustainable products, there is still a consumer attitude-behavior gap concerning sustainability. Social media has proven to be an effective way to promote sustainability (Saeed, Farooq, & Kersten, 2019), and social media influencers are more effective advertising agents compared to traditional advertising (Araujo, Neijens, & Vliegenthart, 2016). However, the best way to advertise sustainable products through social media-based advertising has not yet been studied. This study examines the different content marketing strategies on social media - owned social media posts and …

An Exploratory Examination Of The Impact Of Customer Service Features On Conversion Rates For Online Retailers, Richard Heiens, Ravi Narayanaswamy, Emily Siegfried

AMTP Proceedings 2021

The present study explores the link between customer service features and conversion rates for the 500 largest online retailers in the U.S. market. Twelve distinct customer service features were examined, including auto-replenishment, co-branded credit cards, currency conversion tools, free shipping, free return shipping, in-home services such as product installation or in-person consultations, live chats, providing website content in multiple languages, next-day delivery, online return processing, paid memberships with enhanced customer services, and same day delivery. Consistent with previous studies that indicate typical conversion rates in the range of 2-4 percent, the mean conversion rate for the firms in our sample …

An Exploratory Examination Of The Relationship Between Digital Traffic Channels And Web Sales For Hedonic Products, Ravi Narayanaswamy, Richard Heiens

AMTP Proceedings 2021

The present study explores the relationship between digital traffic channels and Web sales for online retailers of hedonic-type products. The hedonic product categories studied include Flowers/Gifts, Jewelry, Sporting Goods, and Toys/Hobbies. The digital traffic channels incorporated in the analysis include direct traffic to a marketer’s website, display ads, email marketing, organic search engine results, paid search engine results, and referrals from other sites. Our preliminary findings indicate that each of these traffic channels is in fact significantly correlated with both monthly website visits and Web sales. However, the traffic channels with the strongest correlations with Web sales were shown to …

Spatial Expressions And Consumer Perceptions Of Quantity, Scott D. Swain, Danny Weathers Mar 2021

Spatial Expressions And Consumer Perceptions Of Quantity, Scott D. Swain, Danny Weathers

AMTP Proceedings 2021

Marketplaces and media sources frequently present consumers with information or measurements that involve “extreme” quantities (e.g., the size of the national debt or the number of pounds of plastic in the Earth’s oceans). Often, communicators express these quantities in spatial terms in an effort to influence the perceptual impact of the information (e.g., expressing the national debt in terms of the number of miles it would extend if laid out in paper currency form). Across three experiments, we find evidence that perceptual impact diminishes with spatial dimensionality (e.g., expressing a quantity as a length makes it seem larger than expressing …

How Generational Preferences, Cultural Trends, Workplace Expectations, And Other Factors Have Changed The Definition Of Professionalism In Terms Of Attire And How Employers And Managers Can Respond, Allie R. Guinn, Melek Meral Anitsal, Ismet Anitsal Mar 2021

How Generational Preferences, Cultural Trends, Workplace Expectations, And Other Factors Have Changed The Definition Of Professionalism In Terms Of Attire And How Employers And Managers Can Respond, Allie R. Guinn, Melek Meral Anitsal, Ismet Anitsal

AMTP Proceedings 2021

Business attire is an essential part of personal branding as well as corporate branding activities. Fashion, cultural trends, workplace expectations play a role, among others form and change what an acceptable work attire is. Corporations even use their definitions of work attire in their advertising activities as a part of identity development. Such recent examples are State Farm Insurance, Progressive, and Enterprise Rent a Car. Observations during career development activities at multiple universities also revealed that Millennials might have different professional attire interpretations.

The literature review indicated a gap regarding how perceptions change from generation to generation in this topic. …

The Stressors Faced By Retail Workers During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Nada Elnahla, Leighann C. Neilson

AMTP Proceedings 2021

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, brick-and-mortar retail workers have been hailed as heroic frontline employees. No matter where a retail store is located or the severity of the lockdown, retail workers have many new regulations and guidelines to follow and implement in order to protect both themselves and their customers. Using a qualitative research methodology, this exploratory research focuses on how the COVID-19 pandemic and its resulting drastic changes in the retail sector are affecting the workers in North America. Four main stressors are identified: fear of the unknown, fear of infection, mistreatment by consumers, and the role of the powerless …

The Evolving Nature Of The Inside And Outside Sales Relationship: Cooperation And Conflict, Zori Perkins, Claire Durant, Stefan Sleep

AMTP Proceedings 2021

Firms are increasingly turning to inside sales, salespeople working from a single or virtual location versus traveling to customers, because of the significant costs savings and improvements in communications technology. As a result, there is growing interaction between the inside and outside sales organizations. Through a series of interviews with inside and outside sale representatives, this research explores the evolving relationship between the two. The results of the interviews show that the sales responsibilities for inside and outside sales vary significantly across firms. Additionally, the research finds that personal relationships play a critical role in the success of the inside …

Factors Impacting One’S Self-Classification Into One Of The Five Categories Of A Typology Delineating Green (And Not So Green) Consumers, Sam Fullerton, Tammy Mccullough, Estelle Van Tonder

AMTP Proceedings 2021

A sample of 1,243 adult residents of the United States provided insight into an array of issues germane to sustainability. Upon completing a 65-question survey on sustainability, each respondent placed themselves in an eco-group that they felt best corresponded to their own behavior and attitudes towards the task of keeping the planet green for ourselves, and perhaps more importantly, for our posterity. The five groups ranged from the eco-destroyer to the eco-warrior. Within the survey, each respondent provided their opinions regarding seven multi-item scales that primarily addressed green issues; some scales addressed business behavior while others addressed issues such as …

Wine Consumer Culture Positioning: Case Of The Global Success Of Yellow Tail And Casillero Del Diablo, Samit Chakravorti

AMTP Proceedings 2021

This paper qualitatively discusses through the lens of consumer cultural positioning literature the global success of two wine brands: Yellow Tail of Casella Wines of Australia and Casillero del Diablo of Concha Y Toro of Chile. These two brands have made meaningful gains in many markets across the globe despite the high fragmentation in the world of wine and have mad themselves stand out as icons of “global” brands in the wine world. Analysis of secondary data reveals that the marketing actions of the two brands align with findings from branding literature. Both brands identified different but meaningful consumer cultural …

B2b Social Media Marketing: A Content Analysis Of The Role Of Scope On Firm Performance, Nicole Beachum, Marianne Loes, Stacy Wellborn, Catherine Hessick

AMTP Proceedings 2021

Both in the literature and in practice, social media marketing is encouraged for organizations looking to build and maintain relationships with their target markets. However, there is a need to better understand the value of social media marketing specifically for B2B organizations. A review of the literature finds that social network theory, social capital theory, and resource advantage theory offer support for the use of social media marketing to ultimately improve firm performance. This paper leverages text mining and content analysis methodologies to examine the relationship of B2B social media use (in terms of frequency of posts and platforms) and …

Revisiting The Beneficiaries Of The Scotus Ruling Striking Down Paspa, Sam Fullerton, Ronald Dick, Michael Mccall

AMTP Proceedings 2021

A Supreme Court ruling in 2018 essentially rendered restrictions on sports gambling to run counter to states’ rights, thus in conflict with the Constitution of the United States. As a consequence, 13 states and the District of Columbia now have legalized sports gambling. Initial research into the consequences of this ruling identified 12 potential beneficiaries. Subsequent research entailing an assessment of new literature and a survey of executive opinion involving a number of marketing executives who work within the field of sports marketing expanded the findings from the earlier study. This extension of the preliminary study found 14 beneficiaries rather …

Brand Wonder, Sunil Erevelles, Emily Hoffmann, Maanasi Bulusu Jan 2021

Brand Wonder, Sunil Erevelles, Emily Hoffmann, Maanasi Bulusu

AMTP Proceedings 2021

Affect is a core construct in the understanding of how consumers respond to marketing stimuli, such as brands, products, and communications, and is critical in the achievement of marketing outcomes (Erevelles 1998). Despite an extensive body of literature on affect in marketing that exists today, there appears to be an incomprehensible gap in the literature on the study of one type of emotion. This emotion has been described as “humanity’s most important emotion,” and the “one emotion (that) inspired our greatest achievements in science, art, and religion” (c.f., Prinz 2013, p1). That emotion is wonder. Adam Smith, often known as …
