Meet Cara Carter, fourth-year pharmacy student
Cara Carter grew up on the south side of Kansas City, Missouri. While she lived in a decidedly urban environment, Carter says the health care experiences in her hometown are not that different than those found in rural settings.
“It is definitely a health care desert so I know what it is like for there not to be a doctor for miles,” says Carter, a fourth-year student pharmacist attending East Tennessee State University’s Gatton College of Pharmacy. “There are veterinarian offices and some clinics that take place for back-to-school physicals, but there is no …

In the pilot area -- in metro Richmond and in Washington, Wise, Russell, Buchanan, Lee, Scott, Dickenson and Tazewell counties -- organizations like One Care of Southwest Virginia are training folks to recognize the signs of drug overdose …

Magno, Melissa, East Tennessee State University, [email protected]; Arpita Nandi, [email protected]; Ingrid Luffman, [email protected]
Generally, mining activities increase heavy metal concentrations in soils by producing waste rock, tailings and slag. Un-reclaimed abandoned mine sites may accumulate heavy metals in soil and threaten environmental and public health. Determination of soil physicochemical properties’ role in the spatial distribution of metals in soil is essential to monitor …

An online survey of Likert scales, openended questions and demographic questions was sent via class learning management websites. A total of 165 students of the 438 invited to participate completed the survey. A structural model was developed using SMART-PLS to estimate the relationships of constructs that predict taking online courses. Results …

All of us can readily identify the major changes that have occurred in society over the past several decades and, more important, the manner in which these changes have affected the way we conduct the business of continuing higher education. For example, the telephone has been replaced by e-mail, which is now the most prevalent way we communicate with each other in the workplace. Social media and the web now dominate how we market our programs and communicate with our various constituencies. Instruction, once delivered primarily face-to-face in a classroom setting, is now routinely delivered utilizing various digitally mediated formats, …
