JOHNSON CITY (July 22, 2020) – For the past 10 years, East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health has been part of a global health collaboration that has improved the quality of life for citizens in underserved communities around the world. In 2009, the global health nonprofit Hope Through Healing Hands launched the Frist Global Health Leaders (FGHL) Program, which provides volunteer services and builds self-sustaining caregiver capacity in underserved communities. ETSU’s College of Public Health has been a partner from the beginning.

JOHNSON CITY (July 20, 2020) – A grant awarded to the Department of Family Medicine at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine will help prepare more family medicine resident physicians to practice as primary care physicians (PCPs) in rural and underserved communities.
The Health Resources and Services Administration awarded ETSU approximately $2.4 million over five years to fund a project titled “Family Medicine Training in Rural Appalachia.”

JOHNSON CITY (July 16, 2020) – The first week of medical school looked much different for the 72 new members of the class of 2024, who were welcomed to East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine this week.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the students participated in a virtual orientation via Zoom on Monday, July 13, and began classes online the next day. JOHNSON CITY – Northeast Tennessee is home to a large number of museums, state parks and heritage sites, and cultural heritage tourism is one of the most important segments of the region’s economy. This fall, students at East Tennessee State University will be able to enroll in a new undergraduate minor or in a graduate certificate in heritage interpretation and museum studies.
The programs are offered through the Department of Appalachian Studies, in collaboration with the Department of History, the Storytelling program, and several other departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Clemmer College.

Dr. Noland will share a “Budget Update Presentation” video with campus before the Live Town Hall on July 16. Questions about the budget presentation may be submitted to [email protected] for Dr. Noland to address during the Town Hall. There will be an opportunity to ask questions during the event, but inquiries submitted in advance will be addressed first.
